Head of Biology Opportunity

We are seeking an exceptional Biological Curriculum Specialist to lead our Biology department at King's College School, Cascais, a distinguished member of the Inspired Education Group.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of our Biology department and inspire the next generation of scientists. As Head of Biology, you will be responsible for leading the Biology department, overseeing curriculum development, teaching standards, and resource allocation to ensure high-quality education.

You will design and implement a comprehensive Biology curriculum aligned with Cambridge International and forthcoming IB standards, fostering critical thinking and scientific inquiry. Deliver engaging and challenging Biology lessons to students from Years 7 to 13, ensuring excellence in academic outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Biology department and oversee curriculum development, teaching standards, and resource allocation.
  • Design and implement a comprehensive Biology curriculum aligned with Cambridge International and forthcoming IB standards.
  • Deliver engaging and challenging Biology lessons to students from Years 7 to 13.
  • Develop and administer assessments that accurately measure student progress and provide constructive feedback to support individual learning needs.
  • Mentor and support Biology teachers, facilitating professional growth and promoting best practices within the department.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across departments to promote interdisciplinary learning and contribute to the school's academic initiatives.
Requirements

To succeed as our Head of Biology, you will require:

  • A degree in Biology or a related field, with a strong academic track record (e.g., First or Upper Second Class Honours) and a recognized teaching qualification.
  • Proven academic excellence in teaching Biology at GCSE and IB (or equivalent, such as A Levels), with a history of securing top academic outcomes, including high proportions of students achieving top grades.
  • Analytical insight into what drives excellent progress and performance in Biology's examination specifications, providing a clear vision for academic success.
  • Experience in academic environments, including teaching Sixth Form (Years 12 and 13), with a minimum of 2 years' teaching experience in a fast-paced, academically ambitious school.
  • Leadership skills, with demonstrated ability to lead and manage a department, strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Innovative teaching approaches, with a passion for teaching and the ability to inspire students through creative and engaging lessons.
  • Assessment expertise, with experience in developing and implementing effective assessment strategies to monitor and enhance student learning.
  • A proactive approach to personal and professional development, staying updated on advancements in Biology education.
  • A collaborative mindset, with a willingness to work with colleagues, students, and the wider school community.
  • Cultural awareness, with an appreciation for working in a multicultural environment and the ability to connect with students from diverse backgrounds.
