School Overview

Kings College School Cascais, a distinguished member of our group, is seeking an experienced and dynamic Biology Department Lead to join our team. We offer the Cambridge International curriculum, including IGCSEs, and will be introducing the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme in the near future.

Job Description

We are looking for a skilled educator with a passion for teaching Biology to lead our department and shape the future of our students. As a Biology Department Lead, you will oversee curriculum development, teach engaging lessons, and mentor colleagues to ensure high-quality education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Management: Lead the Biology department, ensuring excellence in teaching standards and resource allocation.
  • Curriculum Development: Design and implement a comprehensive Biology curriculum aligned with Cambridge International and IB standards.
  • Teaching Excellence: Deliver challenging and engaging Biology lessons to students from Years 7 to 13, promoting critical thinking and scientific inquiry.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Develop assessments that accurately measure student progress and provide constructive feedback to support individual learning needs.
  • Professional Development: Mentor and support Biology teachers, facilitating professional growth and promoting best practices within the department.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues across departments to promote interdisciplinary learning and contribute to the school's academic initiatives.
  • Student Engagement: Encourage student participation in extracurricular activities related to Biology.
  • Quality Assurance: Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the Biology curriculum and teaching methods, implementing improvements as necessary.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • A degree in Biology or a related field, with a strong academic track record and a recognized teaching qualification.
  • Proven experience teaching Biology at GCSE and IB (or equivalent), with a history of securing top academic outcomes.
  • Ability to articulate what drives excellent progress and performance in Biology's examination specifications.
  • Minimum of 2 years' teaching experience in a fast-paced, academically ambitious school.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a department, with strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for teaching and the ability to inspire students through creative and engaging lessons.

Estimated Salary: €60,000 - €80,000 per annum, depending on experience.
