Be our IT Business Controller

Why we need you?


Hiscox Europe, which includes Germany, France, Benelux, Iberia and Ireland, is running on a multi-year, multi-country business and technology transformation programme, cutting across all geographies and targeting a set of key strategic outcomes: operational efficiency and scalability, connectivity, quality and speed of change, and analytics.


As part of Europe Technology Team, based in Lisbon, you will be responsible for timely tracking and controlling of IT transformation programme budget and identifying opportunities for cost optimization and process improvement.

As our Technology department continues to grow, you will also support on our financial management.

What is expected from you?

  • Work closely with IT managers and other stakeholders to monitor and control IT costs throughout the transformation program. This includes identifying opportunities for cost optimization, managing and controlling vendor billings, and ensuring that expenses are in line with the program's budget and financial plans.
  • Communicate financial information effectively to both financial and nonfinancial stakeholders, including programme manager, IT managers, and project teams. This includes providing regular financial reports, identifying risks and opportunities that may impact the program's financial performance.
  • Work closely with management to support the IT department's budget planning process including capital expenditures, operational expenses, and personnel timesheet.
  • Enhance financial performance by conducting thorough analyses of results and variables, identifying trends, and recommending strategic actions.
  • Ensure that the IT department operates within its allocated budget by monitoring and controlling IT expenses, and by preparing and analysing financial reports.
  • Work with Finance department to ensure IT Europe department meets the requirements and deadlines according to Hiscox's yearly planning cycle and monthly reporting processes.

How will you help us?

  • 4+ years of experience in similar roles with at least two years of experience working as a controller in IT Projects and/or Technology department.
  • Excellent analytical and problemsolving skills, with a deep understanding of project cost control/ analysis, budget and forecasting.
  • Be able to analyse data/information and explain the results clearly and succinctly.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in MS Excel and experience with business analytics tools is a plus (preferably Power BI).
  • Experience working with insurance companies is a plus.
