OIS is looking for a School Nurse to join our amazing team

The school Nurse is the primary point of contact for all health and hygiene related issues.

They work in partnership with the school to create a healthy environment, by not only applying all the necessary healthcare services and complying with health regulations, but also by promoting a preventive health mindset and education.

They are aware of and understand the emotional and physical needs of the students.

Responsibilities:
The Nurse's responsibilities, including any additional areas that the Principal deems appropriate, are the following:

Health services:

  • Provide direct care/immediate assistance to students and staff that are ill or injured.
  • Oversee the administration of student medication, according to guardians'/physicians' instructions.
  • Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans for students with special health needs.
  • Accompany student in ambulance, in emergency cases.
  • Communicate appropriately and effectively the health status of students to parents and school personnel.

Health Education and Prevention:

  • Educate students, staff, and parents on health-related topics, fostering the importance of preventive health.
  • Promote wellness programs and healthy lifestyle choices within the school community.
  • Participate in health education curriculum development and delivery.
  • Implement the best nursing practices, state regulations, and school health policies.
  • Provide training for staff to support children with healthcare needs, such as asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, or allergies.
  • Provide first-aid training to students and staff.

Collaboration and Advocacy:

  • Liaise with the Pastoral Team where appropriate.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams to support student health and academic success.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, establishing partnerships that benefit the development of a healthy environment in the school.
  • Advocate for policies that promote a healthy school environment.
  • Be part of the Designated Safeguarding Team for the entire school.

Resources Management:

  • Coordinate the safe disposal of syringes where necessary.
  • Order relevant resources/medication.
  • Maintain relevant resources and medication in a secure location.
  • Distribute and maintain first-aid boxes where necessary.
  • Assist the Admin office with communicating messages to students.

Records and compliance:

  • Maintain medical details of students and staff on school database.
  • Prepare paperwork regarding school accidents for insurance company.
  • Collaborate in all health and safety related issues.
  • Provide students with medical details for field trips.
  • Maintain a daily register of medical incidents.

Qualifications:
1)

Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
2)

Experience:
Minimum 5 years of experience, preferably in pediatric or school nursing.

Skills:

  • Strong assessment and clinical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and basic computer applications.
