The Role:

We are seeking a Site Reliability Engineering Lead to steer the effort to scale and secure the infrastructure that powers Nitro products and services. Nitro SREs are part of the Systems Engineering team, which exists to maximize customer trust and engineering innovation. SREs are experts in software and systems and act as core participants in every significant engineering effort underway here at Nitro. We hire people from both systems and software backgrounds. The strongest candidates will have experience in both.

What you'll be doing:

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Leading a small, tightly-knit engineering organization to architect, deliver, and improve technical solutions that delight our customers.
  2. Helping define and execute improvements to Nitro's engineering infrastructure, CI/CD pipeline, and related processes.
  3. Addressing problems related to mission-critical services for build, test, and delivery automation.
  4. Writing and reviewing software to improve the availability, scalability, and efficiency of Nitro cloud services.
  5. Creating tools to deploy, provision and observe infrastructure efficiently.
  6. Helping define, implement, and discuss new designs, architectures, standards, and best practices for large-scale distributed systems.
  7. Sharing an on-call rotation and being an escalation point for service incidents in collaboration with other engineering teams.
What we're looking for:

We seek individuals with:

  • Experience leading Engineering Teams.
  • Experience with modern CI/CD architectures, systems, and best practices.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g. Go, Python, Ruby...).
  • Experience using containerization (e.g. Docker) and orchestration frameworks (e.g. Kubernetes) for managing microservices.
  • Proficiency with Cloud Providers (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP) and their core services (networking, storage, compute, databases, security).
  • Experience with securing cloud platforms and approaching engineering with a security-first mindset.
  • Familiarity with SRE best practices and operational excellence for Systems Engineering.
  • Competence with the three pillars of observability (logs, metrics, traces) and troubleshooting performance and availability issues effectively.
  • Experience in building microservice-based internet SaaS platforms.
  • Passion for infrastructure as code (e.g. Terraform).
