Senior Actuary & People Manager

We will count on you to:

  • Direct, coach, and guide actuarial analysts and valuation specialists through core valuation work which includes flawless execution with respect to requesting, gathering, and reviewing client data for completeness, reconciling data and assets from previous valuations, and preparing summaries of data, assets, and benefits defined in the plan document;
  • Prepare detailed analysis of final funding and accounting results to be reviewed by a Signing Actuary and Retirement Consultant;
  • Review and validate annual client liabilities produced by Mercer's Retirement Studio System and other proprietary systems;
  • Determine timeline and valuation budget and comparing budgeted versus actual amounts and resolving and communicating timing issues around valuation preparation;
  • Provide guidance and technical leadership to valuation analysts and valuation specialists by teaching new skills, help in assigning the correct amount of time that should be spent on each step in the project and confirming that the workflow process was correctly followed and documented;
  • Manage most complex financial calculations including the calculation of plan liabilities, asset calculations and trust statement review in client situations of pension plan design change, change in benefit formula or assumptions and oversees other special projects.

What you need to have:

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in Actuarial Valuations;
  • Ability to engage, motivate and manage people, showing an empathetic and inclusive approach;
  • Experience in Project Management;
  • Bachelors or Master's in Actuarial, Mathematics, Economics, Management or similar;
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills;
  • Attention to detail is critical;
  • Strong problem solving skills & ability to clearly articulate complex issues;
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills in order to prioritise and effectively manage a wide variety of ongoing tasks;
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with colleagues and clients. Comfortable dealing with clients contacts;
  • Growth mindset and out of the box thinking;
  • Proactive and goal oriented;
  • Strive to achieve efficiencies in ongoing work;
  • Advance Microsoft Office skills (in particular a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
