Agronomy Project Manager Position (Lisbon - Portugal) Position start date: flexible between February and March 2026 AgroSystemic is hiring its first full-time experienced Agronomy Project Manager to lead and support the implementation of innovative agricultural projects across Portugal. This role blends hands-on fieldwork, farmer support, project coordination, and agronomic analysis. You will directly manage one or more projects while contributing to others within our growing portfolio. The position involves regular farm visits and close collaboration with our clients - large-scale farmers, supply chain actors, and agricultural funds - to design, implement, and monitor the adoption of innovative practices on the ground. We are looking for a practical, proactive agronomist with strong communication skills, a strategic mindset, and a genuine interest in systems change within agriculture. This is an opportunity to build a long-term relationship with AgroSystemic and take on increasing responsibility over time. REQUIREMENTS 1. Experience Level Minimum: 2–3 years of experience in agronomy or farm management, with direct involvement in real-world farming operations Ideal: 4–5 years of experience, including hands-on roles in operational farm work or managing production systems Must be operationally fluent in farm contexts — equipment, seasonality, logistics, farmer realities 2. Educational Background Minimum: BSc in Agronomy or Agricultural Engineering Ideal: MSc in Agronomy, with specialisation in soil health, crop nutrition, conservation agriculture, or soil microbiology Bonus: Completion of relevant academic or non-academic training (short courses, certificates, field programs) on soil health, regenerative agriculture, conservation agriculture, "produção integrada” or sustainable farming practices.  3. Technical Competencies Solid understanding of agronomic diagnostics and analytical interpretation: soil analyses, tissue/sap analyses, plant observations Strong applied knowledge of plant physiology, crop nutrition, pest and disease management, precision agriculture tools, soil management (including tillage, amendments, and microbiological strategies) Hands-on experience operating or adjusting agricultural machinery (e.g., tillage, seeding, spraying) A solid understanding of soil health, preferably supported by hands-on experience in implementing relevant practices. Experience participating in agronomic or scientific trials, including monitoring, implementation, and protocol compliance Practical project management experience, including planning, coordination, execution, and tracking of multi-step agronomic or field-based projects Proven ability to manage data collection, documentation, analysis, and reporting with high levels of rigour, organisation, and clarity — this is a critical requirement for success in the role. 4. Soft Skills  Strong interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to hold practical conversations with farmers and strategic conversations with client managers.  High degree of autonomy, personal organisation, and ability to manage complex workflows across multiple projects Strategic mindset and systems thinking — able to improve AgroSystemic’s internal systems, tools, and methodologies Comfortable with responsibility and open to collaborative learning, feedback, and adaptation 5. Language Requirements Fluent Portuguese (written and spoken) Fluent English (written and spoken) Bonus: Spanish (spoken)  6. Location & Mobility Must be based near Lisbon Weekly farm visits required, with occasional overnight stays depending on project needs Regular car travel to field sites in Minho, Beira Baixa, and Alentejo - driving licence required 7. Culture & Alignment Collaborative attitude and strong focus on transparent and constructive team communication Belief in systems change, and in regenerative and resilient agriculture as practical tools for world challenges Pragmatic and humble — avoids dogma, prioritises what works in context Deep respect for farmers, rural knowledge, and on-the-ground realities Motivated to work in a dynamic, start-up environment and contribute to the evolution and growth of AgroSystemic as a company RESPONSABILITIES 1. Agronomy Project Management Responsible for client transition projects  Lead client and farmer communications Coordinate trials, diagnostics, recommendations, and follow-ups Track timelines, deliverables, and ensure practical implementation on the ground 2. Farmer Implementation Support Translate innovative agricultural strategies into real-world practices with farmers Support adjustments to equipment, seeding techniques, fertilisation, and other operational details Regularly visit farms to troubleshoot, refine, and guide implementation Act as a hands-on partner to the farmer, ensuring protocols are followed and challenges are addressed quickly 3. Field Work Perform soil sampling, tissue sampling, and field observations Measure KPIs for trials and implementation performance Apply AgroSystemic’s observation protocols and ensure timely, accurate data collection Document outcomes and feedback into internal systems 4. R&D Trials  Contribute to the design of research trials focused on regenerative practices Ensure operational execution: layout, implementation, and monitoring of field trials Coordinate trial timelines, sampling plans, and farmer engagement Guarantee data integrity and alignment with AgroSystemic’s research standards 5. Organisational Development & System Building Use and help improve AgroSystemic tools (templates, protocols, AI tools, data systems) Contribute to refining methodologies for diagnostics, implementation, and reporting Identify bottlenecks and propose solutions to improve service delivery Play an active role in building the foundations for AgroSystemic’s future growth as a professional, data-driven consultancy
