Senior Rust Engineer The Role We are looking for a Senior Rust Engineer to join a small, high calibre engineering team building brand new cloud and distributed backend infrastructure used in production. This is a hands on backend role with Rust at the core of the system. You will work on greenfield services, core engine components, and foundational backend systems that power a modern cloud platform. The focus is on deep technical work, clean system design, reliability, and scalability. This is not a maintenance role. You will have real architectural input, ownership over what you build, and influence over how the system evolves. What You Will Do - Design, build, and maintain backend services in Rust - Build core backend modules and internal platform components - Work on distributed and concurrent systems - Design and evolve systems running in cloud style environments - Build service to service communication and networking heavy components - Improve system reliability, performance, and scalability - Contribute to infrastructure related backend tooling - Implement testing strategies for backend services - Contribute to CI CD pipelines and deployment workflows - Take part in architecture and system design discussions What We Are Looking For - Strong commercial experience using Rust in production - Senior level background in backend, systems, or infrastructure engineering - Deep understanding of Rust fundamentals including ownership and memory safety - Experience building and operating distributed or cloud based systems - Solid knowledge of backend communication patterns and APIs - Experience working with CI CD pipelines and modern deployment workflows - Strong ownership mindset and ability to work autonomously in a small team Bonus Points - Background in systems languages such as C++ or C - Experience working with containers and K8s - Strong networking fundamentals - Exposure to monitoring, logging, and observability systems - Open source contributions, particularly within the Rust ecosystem Location and Package - Lisbon based with a hybrid working model If you are excited by deep backend engineering, Rust at scale, and building core infrastructure from scratch, we would love to hear from you.
