Key Responsibilities Design, build, and maintain robust backend systems with a focus on AI and agent/chatbot technologies. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver new features and drive innovation in digital operations. Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from design and architecture to deployment and support. Take part in on‑call rotations to ensure high availability and reliability of our services. Contribute to technical discussions, code reviews, and mentor other engineers. Work with cutting‑edge technologies in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment. Basic Qualifications 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong focus on backend development. Recent (last 6‑12 months) hands‑on experience in AI or chatbot development. Experience shipping code as part of a team in a production environment. Solid understanding of distributed systems, APIs, and scalable backend architectures. Willingness to participate in on‑call rotations. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Based in Lisbon, with the ability to work remotely in Portugal after 20 days. Preferred Qualifications Experience with LangGraph (strong plus, as it's foundational to our AI / agent work). Experience with Elixir for backend development. Background as a Backend Engineer with AI experience, or as a Machine Learning Engineer with product development experience. Experience working in SaaS or cloud‑based environments. Familiarity with modern DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines. Experience mentoring or leading other engineers. PagerDuty is a flexible, hybrid workplace.
