Data Scientist - Applied Mathematics & Clinical Analytics

  • Full-time

Join iLOF to turn challenging scientific questions into implemented analyses, reproducible workflows and useful results.

With a primary focus on clinical projects and contributions to preclinical work, you will take ownership of analytical deliverables, investigate unresolved problems and help move projects from exploration to completion.

This is a hands‑on role for someone with strong mathematical foundations who enjoys applying quantitative reasoning to practical problems. You will work closely with other Data Scientists and scientific colleagues, translating project needs into concrete analytical solutions and communicating what the results mean.

Translate clinical and preclinical project questions into clear analytical tasks, approaches and deliverables.

Apply strong mathematical expertise in signal processing, probability and statistics to develop and evaluate robust algorithms.

Prepare, explore and analyse experimental and associated clinical datasets, investigating quality issues and inconsistencies.

Implement and evaluate statistical and machine learning methods appropriate to the question and available data.

Take ownership of unresolved analytical problems, diagnose their causes and develop practical solutions.

Produce reproducible code, analyses, visualisations and documentation that colleagues can review and reuse.

Apply appropriate validation procedures and communicate uncertainty, limitations and alternative interpretations.

Work with colleagues from other teams and disciplines to interpret findings in their experimental and clinical context.

Collaborate with specialist Data Scientists to apply new methods within project workflows.

Support reports, publications and project milestones through clear, timely analytical contributions.

Who we are looking for

You are a practical problem solver who enjoys moving from an abstract question to a working solution. You can understand an existing analysis, identify what is preventing progress and take responsibility for resolving it.

You bring mathematical discipline, strong implementation skills and a collaborative approach. You are comfortable working in an evolving environment while keeping your work structured, reproducible and focused on the project’s needs.

Qualifications

Degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics or a related quantitative discipline, supported by relevant applied experience.

Professional experience delivering Data Science or quantitative analysis projects from problem definition through implementation.

Strong scientific programming skills and the ability to write clear, maintainable analytical code.

Practical knowledge of statistics, machine learning, data preparation and model evaluation.

Ability to investigate unfamiliar datasets, troubleshoot analytical workflows and assess whether results are credible.

Experience managing your own deliverables and communicating progress, dependencies and findings.

Experience in a startup or another environment requiring ownership and adaptability is particularly valuable.

Experience analysing biomedical, clinical or experimental data is advantageous.

The opportunity

Make a visible contribution to iLOF’s scientific programmes by solving difficult analytical problems and delivering work that colleagues can use to make decisions and advance projects.

iLOF in a nutshell

As personalized medicine becomes the norm, scientists, patients, and healthcare systems worldwide face massive barriers in providing the right treatment to the right patient.

Recognized by CB Insights and Financial Times as one of the most promising Digital Health companies in the world, iLOF is building an AI-powered platform capable of transforming precision medicine.

Our goal is to become the platform that democratizes access to personalized medicine for millions of people living with complex diseases around the globe.

Thanks to our proprietary optical fingerprint library of disease biomarkers and biological profiles we can offer personalized patient screening and stratification in a faster and more affordable way, saving up to 40% of the cost and 70% of the time while enabling a more human patient experience.

Supported by leading institutions like Microsoft Ventures, Mayfield, and the Oxford University, iLOF is currently focusing on validating its platform technology in one of the biggest challenges of our times: Alzheimer's, while maintaining ongoing verticals on Digestive Cancer, Stroke, and Infectious diseases.

We are a mix of scientists, entrepreneurs, and inventors based in London and Porto, with a passion for healthcare
