Who We're Looking For

We are looking for a Senior Application Support Engineer to join an application support team, providing production support for critical applications and data platforms in a dynamic financial services environment. The role involves managing incidents and service requests, troubleshooting technical issues, monitoring application performance and ensuring service availability in a 24/7 environment.

The ideal candidate has strong experience in Application Support, Linux, Ansible, Docker and Kubernetes, with knowledge of cloud environments, infrastructure automation and banking operations.

Professional Experience & Main Tasks

• Provide application production support for banking applications and IT data platforms, ensuring service stability and availability.
• Manage incidents and service requests, ensuring timely resolution and compliance with service-level objectives (SLOs).
• Analyse system, middleware and application logs to identify, troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
• Perform service monitoring, reporting and continuous improvement activities to enhance service quality and availability.
• Participate in a 24/7 production support team, including shifts, on-call rotations, weekends and public holidays.
• Participate in and support Disaster Recovery (DR) exercises and live production readiness activities.
• Build and maintain Ansible playbooks and Terraform scripts to automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration and deployments.
• Support and maintain containerised environments using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Contribute to infrastructure automation and continuous integration processes using tools such as Jenkins.
• Review and create application support knowledge articles, ensuring documentation is accurate and up to date.
• Participate in knowledge transfer sessions with application development teams to validate understanding of application changes.
• Collaborate with development, infrastructure and operations teams to improve incident management, operational efficiency and production readiness.
• Escalate risks and critical issues in a timely manner, ensuring effective communication with relevant stakeholders.
• Support and share knowledge with other operations team members on Ansible, Docker and Kubernetes best practices.
• 5+ years of professional experience in IT Operations, Application Support, Production Support or Software Engineering.
• Experience in L1/L2 application support and troubleshooting within a banking or financial services environment.
• Strong knowledge of Linux, preferably Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), including command-line tools and shell scripting.
• Hands‑on experience with Ansible and Docker, preferably including infrastructure automation.
• Practical experience with Kubernetes and containerised environments.
• At least 2 years of hands‑on experience with a public cloud provider, such as IBM Cloud, AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
• Proficiency in at least one scripting language, preferably Python and/or Bash.
• Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, particularly Ansible and Terraform.
• Understanding of Continuous Integration (CI/CD) practices and tools such as Jenkins.
• Experience with application monitoring tools, preferably Dynatrace, and log analysis.
• Knowledge of PL/SQL and Oracle databases is valued.
• Understanding of ITIL practices, incident management and service-level objectives.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with development and operations teams.
• Proactive mindset, with a focus on service improvement, automation and operational efficiency.
• Availability to work in a 24/7 support environment, including shifts and on-call rotations.

Relevant certifications, such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux Automation with Ansible (RH294), Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD) and Advanced Automation with Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform (DO374), are valued. Terraform and Vault certifications are a plus.
