Job Description:

Business Consultant is responsible for participating in functional and process facets of Oracle Retail software implementations by applying retail industry knowledge and Oracle Retail software functionality.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the definition of project objectives, scope, organization, timelines, and overall approach.
  • Consider and define implementation and integration alternatives.
  • Collaborate with the OLR functional team consistent with this Project Charter and the Project Plan.
  • Act as a contact for the system functionality advice and provide coaching to the client business process team users.
  • Define the system configuration requirements, identify gaps and recommend system modifications and process changes to optimally satisfy business requirements using the Oracle Retail suite of applications.
  • Document functional requirements for modifications and support the design process for the client.
  • Escalate project issues that cannot be resolved within his/her sphere of influence and/or authority to the Project Manager.
  • Assist the client Business Process Team Leader to develop the strategy and plan the work required by the Business Process Team to support implementation.
  • Perform go-live assessments to determine the readiness of the system as well as client and support teams.
  • Maintain detailed knowledge of the functional capabilities and integration points of the Oracle Retail solution.
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of a subset of the following retail concepts: merchandising, inventory management, warehouse management, store operations, planning/forecasting, replenishment, and pricing.
  • Assist with the documentation of 'As Is' business processes and the development of 'To Be' business processes.
  • Schedule and participate in workshop sessions for clients to address the business process requirements with Oracle Retail functionality.
  • Ensure follow up and resolve issues arising from workshop sessions and/or related to business processes and system functionality.
  • Drive test plan definition, creation and execution.
  • Facilitate the logging, reporting, and resolution of application issues.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support development of functional product knowledge for clients and OLR team members.
  • Assist in handoff to support team upon successful project completion of the implementation.

  • Understanding of Oracle Retail solution functional concepts, integration points, and functional application knowledge.
  • Demonstrable record in successful large scale package software implementation.
  • Demonstrable experience in the definition of business process definition and improvement.
  • Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and principles of project management.
  • Ability to identify and proactively solve problems for Oracle Retail clients.
  • Strong client negotiation and demonstrated consulting skills.
  • Understands and demonstrates financial responsibility as related to the overall project budget and timelines.
  • Capable of driving process improvement.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence.
  • Ability to work with clients to build a sense of shared ownership and minimize potential resistance.
  • High degree of initiative, motivation and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to change in a complex global organization.
  • Professional approach when dealing with internal and external customers, including clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
  • High degree of initiative, accuracy, efficiency, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude under stressful circumstances.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with proprietary information.
  • Proficient with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Education and Experience:

  • Degree in a Computer Science or 3+ years of related experience.
  • Previous consulting or participation in large-scale integration projects.
  • 3+ years in the Retail IT industry.
  • 3+ years of Oracle Retail related experience.
  • 3+ years of direct retail operations experience preferably across multiple retail sectors.
