The Tax Assistant will support the Tax team in the preparation and administration of personal income tax matters for individual clients, ensuring accurate documentation, timely follow-up, and compliance with Portuguese tax requirements.

Responsibilities:

Fiscal Representation Management (Representação Fiscal)

  • Support the maintenance and updating of the client registry for fiscal representation.
  • Assist with registering and updating fiscal representation information on the AT Portal (Portal das Finanças).
  • Support the monitoring of AT notifications and relevant tax deadlines.
  • Assist in keeping client information, tax status, and documentation up to date.
  • Maintain organized records of mandates, identification documents, and other relevant documentation.
  • Coordinate with the Tax, Legal, and Compliance teams when required.

Tax Support & IRS Preparation

  • Assist with the collection and review of client documentation required for IRS declarations.
  • Check documents for completeness and identify missing or inconsistent information.
  • Support the preparation of Modelo 3 and relevant IRS annexes under the supervision of the Tax team.
  • Assist with tax calculations, simulations, and basic tax analysis.
  • Support the preparation of responses to requests and notifications from the Autoridade Tributária.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of Portuguese tax legislation, particularly IRS and foreign-source income.

Client Communication & Administration

  • Follow up with clients regarding missing documentation and information.
  • Assist in responding to basic client queries and elevate more complex tax matters when necessary.
  • Communicate tax-related information clearly and professionally.
  • Support clients with administrative matters related to the Portal das Finanças when required.
  • Assist with the organization of invoicing and other administrative processes related to tax services.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Accounting, Taxation, Management, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of professional experience, preferably in accounting, finance, administration, or a related field. Direct tax experience is not mandatory.
  • Basic knowledge or academic understanding of Portuguese taxation and/or accounting.
  • Basic familiarity with the AT Portal (Portal das Finanças) is an advantage.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with confidential information responsibly.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional communication skills in English.
  • Portuguese language advanced to native level is mandatory.
  • Proactive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
