The Tripadvisor Machine Learning Team is looking for an exceptional individual to lead a team working on designing and building next-generation AI systems to understand our travelers and products and improve customer experience. Our work will significantly improve our ability to offer travelers the broadest, most relevant travel products.
You will work on a team with other talented machine learning engineers focusing on content-related AI projects. Our initiatives aim to enhance user-generated content accessibility for travelers through AI Review Summaries, Collections, Auto-Tagging & Knowledge Graphs, topic classification, machine translation, and more. This foundational work improves travelers' exploration of our content and plan their dream vacation You'll work with cutting-edge technologies including Natural Language Understanding, Large Language Models (LLMs), Knowledge Graphs, and GenAI.

LOCATION: This position is only available for remote work to those currently residing in Portugal or the UK. What You Will Do Lead the design, development, and deployment of machine learning models and systems in production.Develop advanced techniques in natural language understanding (NLU), statistical NLP, language modeling, transfer learning, in-context learning (zero-shot, few-shot, etc.), recommender systems, learning-to-rank models, statistical inference and deep learning.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities and develop solutions to complex problems.Stay current with the latest advancements in machine learning and apply them to improve existing systems and processes.Mentor junior team members and provide technical guidance and expertise.Drive innovation and contribute to the overall growth and success of the machine learning team.Design A/B tests and analyze their results.Who You Are You are an experienced machine learning engineer with a strong background in developing and deploying production-grade models.You have a proven track record of leading projects from conception to completion, delivering high-quality results on time and within budget.You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are able to adapt quickly to changing priorities and requirements.You are a proactive problem-solver with excellent communication and collaboration skills.You are passionate about machine learning and are committed to continuous learning and professional development.Qualifications PhD. or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.5+ years of experience in machine learning engineering or a related field.Proficiency in Python and experience with machine learning libraries such as PyTorch/TensorFlow/Jax, spaCy, NLTK, Hugging Face Transformers, etc.Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms and techniques, including deep learning, reinforcement learning, and natural language processing.Solid foundation of data structures and algorithms.Experience following Software Engineering best practices including source control, code reviews, CI/CD, and automated testing.Ability to write efficient and maintainable SQL queries.Experience deploying machine learning models in production environments using cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP, using Docker and Kubernetes.Experience with distributed computing: Snowflake, Apache Spark, Ray.Experience building data pipelines with tools such as Kubeflow, Argo, and Jenkins.Experience with model tracking and deployment tools such as MLFlow, Seldon, and Sagemaker.Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.Experience solving problems in some of the following areas: natural language processing (NLU, NER, word embeddings, LSTM), transfer learning, in-context learning (zero-shot, few-shot etc.), information retrieval, knowledge graphs, and statistical modeling.If you need a reasonable accommodation or support during the application or the recruiting process due to a medical condition or disability, please reach out to your individual recruiter or send an email to let us know the nature of your request.
