The Role: The Underwriter is part of a highly motivated in-house team that supports the profitable growth of the region's GWP.
The primary communication interface with brokers is via phone and email, providing support regarding all risk-related technical questions.
A strong focus is placed on building rapport and relationships with, and delivering superb service to our broker partners.
The role involves underwriting insurance products for specific product lines/classes within the team for both new business and renewals, ensuring that agreed service standards and key performance objectives are met.
Key Responsibilities: Underwrite, price, and negotiate accounts consistent with the quality of the risk.Develop new relationships and maintain existing relationships with brokers.Work with operations, claims, finance, and internal and external marketing to build products and contribute to the financial performance of the business unit.Maximize the retention of existing renewals and handle mid-term adjustments on existing business.Contribute to growing the existing business income through cross-sell and up-sell.Deal quickly and efficiently with a large volume of requests from brokers.Effectively negotiate with both internal and external parties, including identified points of contact within a brokerage.Regularly challenge convention, writing 'non-standard' business and able to take decisive action on loss-making business.Maintain profitability of the account by making sound and consistent individual underwriting decisions.Identify and challenge non-standard underwriting decisions within the Technical Underwriting Guide (TUG) with a reasoned referral to a product expert or senior underwriter.Take ownership of the performance of your region's account, identifying non-performing accounts in terms of key performance indicators (e.g., retention and profitability) and take appropriate action or flag with the relevant people.Monitor product results and develop ideas to increase productivity.Person Specification: Native Portuguese speaker with a good level of Spanish.3-5 years of experience in the insurance industry.Outgoing, driven, detail-oriented, and results-focused mindset.Ability to identify business needs and provide innovative solutions.Strong understanding of basic sales principles, effective negotiation skills, and a competitive drive.Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.Innate service focus with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external stakeholders.Demonstrated self-motivation, drive, and determination to achieve results.Ability to consider potential outcomes and make decisions in complex situations.A team player who consistently demonstrates behaviors aligned with Hiscox's core values.Why Hiscox?
