It is a complex business intelligence application, serving 100,000 customers, utilizing data from over 500 million Zendesk users and 40+ external data source connectors. Explore is responsible for ingesting millions of records from the Zendesk product family and then allowing them to be queried and visualized at low latency - and all that at scaleWe're looking for a hardworking Senior Software Engineer to help take Zendesk products to the next level in terms of functionality, reliability and scalability. You'll be joining a team that works on our Explore analytics data engine and data stores. Explore is a complex reporting application which provides analytics for Zendesk data. You'll have the skills, experience, wisdom, patience and determination to work with the team to maintain and support the product to meet our customers needs.What you'll do every day:Create and maintain data pipeline architecture and highly performant data stores.Own the full release cycle from development to deploymentIdentify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using AWS 'big data' technologies.Build analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics.Proactively contribute to improving our infrastructure, code, and processesWork with stakeholders including the Engineering, Executive, Product, Data and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.What you'll bring to the role:A minimum of 5 years of practical experience as a backend software developer, including 1 or 2 years of hands-on experience in data pipelines or big data environmentsExperience working with relational databases, and with authoring and analyzing queries in SQLProficiency in a strongly typed programming language such as Java or ScalaExperience in building large highly scalable, distributed systems capable of managing substantial traffic.Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.Experience with developing and maintaining systems on AWS cloud services such as EMR, ECS, S3, and RDS, or similar tools on another cloud platform.Nice-to-haves:Experience with the Scala language.Working knowledge of PostgreSQL or RedshiftExperience managing cloud infrastructure on AWS with TerraformWhat we offer:Full ownership of the projects you work on.Team of passionate people who love what they do.Interesting projects, ability to implement your own ideas and improvements.Opportunity to learn and grow.Zendesk software was built to bring a sense of calm to the chaotic world of customer service. Please note that while the salary range represents the minimum and maximum base salary rate for this position, the actual compensation offered will be based on job related capabilities, applicable experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for bonus, benefits, or related incentives that will be communicated during the offer stage. Hybrid: In this role, our hybrid experience is designed at the team level to give you a rich onsite experience packed with connection, collaboration, learning, and celebration - while also giving you flexibility to work remotely for part of the week. This role must attend our local office for part of the week.
