Offer DescriptionThe Iscte Knowledge and Innovation Association - Center for Valorization and Transfer of Technologies is opening a call for the award of 2 (two) Research Fellowships, funded by the EUROSTIT project (2024.07579.IACDC/2024), of the Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Cybersecurity of relevance to Public Administration program of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology. This project aims to consolidate the EUROpean Observatory on Smart Tourism Initiatives and Tools, coordinated by Professor Fernando Brito e Abreu from the Software Systems Engineering group of ISTAR-Iscte.
The application period is open between March 13 and 26, 2025 (AoE – Anywhere on Earth).
It is mandatory that the applications and corresponding supporting documents be submitted by e-mail to the address ****** with the subject EUROSTIT E1 Candidate Name.
2. TYPE AND DURATION OF THE FELLOWSHIPThe research grants are intended to finance activities at ISTAR-Iscte, located in Building IV of Iscte, Avenida das Forças Armadas 40, 1649-026 Lisbon. The duration of both scholarships is 10 months and may be renewed depending on funding availability.
A selection reserve list will be drawn up for possible cancellations of the scholarships.
3. SCHOLARSHIP HOLDERSThese Research Grants are for candidates enrolled in a higher education institution in the Lisbon region, in a course conferring a doctoral degree in Information Sciences and Technologies or a similar scientific area.
4. ADMISSIBILITY4.1 Eligibility Requirements of CandidatesThe following may apply for this call:
National citizens or citizens of other Member States of the European Union;Citizens of Third States;Stateless persons;Citizens benefiting from political refugee status.To apply for these Research Grants, it is necessary to have permanent and regular residence in Portugal.
4.2 Application Eligibility RequirementsEssential documents to attach to the application include:
Copy of identity card/citizen card/passport;Detailed curriculum vitae, including DOI of published articles;Motivation letter (limit of 300 words);Certificates of qualifications;Declaration from the HEI, proving enrollment in a doctoral program.The application and all documents can be written in Portuguese or English.
5. OBJECTIVES AND WORK PLANBoth grants aim to enrich the content of the Observatory. The work includes:
Fine-tuning of an SLM (Small Language Model) for classification of STTs and ITS;Integration and validation of this SLM in content classification and selection processes;Dissemination and demonstration of the new version of the Observatory;Production of two scientific articles for submission to indexed conferences/journals.6. EVALUATION CRITERIAApplications will be scored on a scale of 0 to 100 based on the following criteria:
Criterion A - Merit of the candidate (60%);Criterion B - Motivation letter (15%);Criterion C - Interview (25%).Candidates with a final classification of less than 50 are not eligible for the research fellowship.
7. EVALUATION PANELThe evaluation panel consists of:
Doctor Miguel Sales Dias, Full Professor at Iscte;Doctor Adriano Lopes, Invited Assistant Professor at Iscte;Substitute member: Doctor Fernando Marques Batista, Associate Professor at Iscte.8. COMMUNICATION OF RESULTSThe results will be communicated by e-mail.
9. TERMS AND PROCEDURES FOR PRIOR HEARING, COMPLAINT AND APPEALAfter communication of the provisional results, candidates have 10 working days to express their views.
10. SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTSThe research fellowship contract is governed by the regulations published by FCT.
11. FUNDINGThe grants are funded by the EUROSTIT project, supported by the Recovering Portugal Mission Structure.
12. SCHOLARSHIP COMPONENTSEach grant holder receives a monthly allowance of €1,309.64.
13. SCHOLARSHIP PAYMENTPayments are made by bank transfer to the account identified by each beneficiary.
14. INFORMATION AND PUBLICITY OF THE FUNDING AWARDEDAll R&D activities funded by the grants must comply with information and communication requirements regarding the origin of the funding.
