A research position for one Bolsa de Investigação (1 BPD) is opened at Instituto de Telecomunicações, in the scope of the Project UTTER - Unified Transcription and Translation for Extended Reality - Reference HORIZON-CL4-2021-HUMAN-01-13 (RIA) 101070631, funded by the applicable financial framework (Horizon Europe). The work for this position is in the area of Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning.

**Work Objectives**:
The overarching goal of UTTER is to extend the state-of-the-art in machine translation and summarization towards two use cases: virtual assistant for online meetings and multilingual customer service dialogue tool. The project will cover 6 languages: English, French, German, Portuguese, Dutch, and Korean. The main work objectives for this position are mainly related to machine translation of conversational data and include: - investigating new efficient methods for adaptation of large pretrained models - investigating methods for quantifying uncertainty and making models robust to noisy inputs - investigating methods for explainability - investigating methods for context-awareness and emotion awareness.
