Anna de Sommer Champalimaud e Dr. Carlos Montez Champalimaud), a private, non-profit research institution in Lisbon, Portugal, is looking for a Research Technician to join our team at the Champalimaud Research Programme.
The Research Technician will work on a project in the research group of Dr Klaas van Gisbergen in the Tissue Immunity Lab at the Champalimaud Foundation. He/she will be part of a larger research team in a collaborative initiative between the labs of Dr Joke den Haan at Amsterdam UMC, Dr Sonja Buschow at Rotterdam UMC and Dr van Gisbergen at the Champalimaud Foundation. The Research Technician will be working in close collaboration with co-workers in the lab and at the other institutes. His/her tasks will include lab management and the planning and execution of experiments.
The project
The aim of the project is to understand how T cells can be optimally geared to fight solid tumors using vaccination strategies. More specifically, we will explore how vaccination approaches can induce resident memory T cells to improve immune defense against cancer. We will focus on how the development of resident memory T cells can be instructed in the liver to provide local protection against hepatocellular carcinoma. The research will be performed using advanced techniques in flow cytometry and transcriptional profiling and using unique tools developed in house to visualize and manipulate resident memory T cells.
The lab
The lab of Tissue Immunity focuses on the development of memory T cells in infection and tumor settings and the transcriptional and molecular pathways underlying T cell differentiation. The eventual goal is to improve the exploit of T cells for the purpose of cancer immunotherapy. The lab is embedded in the department of Cancer and Physiology at the Champalimaud Foundation that provides a lively, internationally oriented, scientific environment with excellent facilities. The research is strongly multidisciplinary and includes neuroscience, tumor biology and tumor immunology making use of state-of-the-art techniques in in vivo models, molecular biology, flow cytometry and fluorescence microscopy.
