A research position for one Research Grant for BSc (“Bolsa de Investigação para Licenciado”) is open at Instituto de Telecomunicações, in the scope of project “CIBME - Compressão de Imagens Biomédicas de Modalidades Emergentes” with Nr/Ref. UIDB/50008/2020. This project is funded by FCT/MCTES.

**Admission Requirements**:

- BSc. in Electrical and Computer Engineering or Biomedical Engineering or Physics Engineering with a grade point average not inferior to 14 on a 20 point scale.
- Knowledge of Digital Signal Processing, image processing, machine learning techniques, programming in C/C++ or Python, and Matlab.
- Proficiency in oral and written Portuguese or English.**Work Objectives**:
The CIBME project has as its main objectives the development of coding and processing technologies for efficient representation and processing in the compressed domain of medical and biomedical images and volumes. The research activities to be carried out in the context of this grant will be focused on the problems of compressing biomedical and medical images like microscopy and MRI images and volumes and processing in the compressed domain. The compression techniques to be developed or evaluated should be compatible with compressed domain processing. The solutions developed will be presented and disseminated publicly in the form of oral communications and written reports as well as scientific papers to be submitted for publication in international journals.

The work will be developed at the premises of Instituto de Telecomunicações at Coimbra, under the supervision of Prof. Luis Alberto da Silva Cruz.

**Duration**:
9 months. Start date: 1st March 2023 or soon thereafter.
