Legal Counsel at Bose (Lisbon based)

The Role

This Lisbon-based Legal Counsel will have global responsibilities primarily in the areas of commercial law, general corporate law, regulatory compliance and general business counselling. They will work closely with other members of the Legal Department based in France and the U.S.: the position includes a mix of autonomous work responsibilities and assisting other attorneys in the Legal Department. The Legal Counsel must have strong business acumen and be well organized and detail oriented, with an ability to handle multiple matters simultaneously across multiple countries, possessing superior client counselling skills.

The Legal Counsel will support our global consumer sales team to provide legal counsel, tools and best practices to protect our sales and brand. Primary job responsibilities include drafting and negotiating commercial and sales contracts (e.g., reseller agreements for our direct markets, wholesale/distribution agreements for our indirect markets), providing legal and compliance advice on a full range of legal issues (e.g., antitrust issues and competition laws, selective distribution requirements under the EU regulation and its foreign equivalent) and conducting compliance trainings focusing on competition law and other topics. Additional responsibilities include support on consumer protection, digital laws, regulations, and corporate law topics for the Bose legal entities in the region.

The Legal Counsel also will work with colleagues in the U.S. on various projects over time, in areas outside the counsel’s specialized area. Therefore, to succeed in this role, the Legal Counsel must “think like a generalist”: they must possess intellectual curiosity and critical thinking, and a passion for learning new things about our business and new areas of the law, and an eagerness to take on new challenges.

The requirements for this position are:
- Postgraduate (Master 2) in business - commercial law- Bi-Lingual in English including a university cursus in an English speaking / common law country.- Knowledge in EU competition law and anti-trust issues impacting manufacturer / distributors and resellers relationships.- At least 5 years prior related legal experience at a top tier international law firm, which must include contract drafting and negotiation.- Willingness to learn new things and play outside one’s comfort zone.- Excellent communication and writing skills.- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, with a clear interest for international environment / cultural diversity- Must be highly organized and detail oriented- Strong collaboration skills and business acumen- Ability to work independently and make decisions within defined parameters.- An interest in gaining experience through on-the-job training and mentoring
