St Julian's School is seeking to appoint a highly committed and suitably qualified specialist to take on the position of one-to-one teacher for a 16 year old student from August 2023 to June 2024. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a wonderful young person with exceptional academic ability and support him to meet his potential.

**About the student**:
The student is a bright and highly capable young man with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and significant strengths in areas of Mathematics and Science. In most cognitive areas, the student performs at the 98th percentile or above, with working memory in the 99.9th percentile. His most recent educational psychology report noted that he “has a brilliant mind with exceptional maths and musical abilities” while the St Julian’s School Maths Team has described teaching him as a “once in a lifetime opportunity.” The student is motivated to succeed in examinations and assessments. He is also caring, enjoys helping others (for example, he has tutored younger students in Mathematics), and has a playful sense of humour.

**About St Julian's School**:
We are a highly successful, non-selective 3-18 British international school with a reputation for academic excellence, founded in 1932. We currently have just over 1,200 students from over 50 different nationalities. The School has three sections: Primary, Secondary and Portuguese. There are 640 students in the Secondary Section.

We are accredited by CIS (Council of International Schools) and NEASC (New England Association of Schools and Colleges) since 1998, we are an Accredited Member of COBIS and our Head of School is an International Member of HMC (Heads' Conference).

We have a strong existing counselling service within the school. In the Secondary Section, the Counselling Service works closely with the Pastoral and Safeguarding Teams to support the wellbeing of all students.
- Have experience of teaching or tutoring students at A Level or university level
- Work closely with the student and his team to understand their unique needs and challenges, and develop customised approaches to support their learning and academic success
- Understand the unique needs of students with ASD, and have an ability to adapt teaching approaches accordingly
- Support and coach the student to prepare for international competitions and olympiads
- Be a reflective, flexible practitioner with the ability to think creatively to respond to the complexity of school life
- Collaborate with the student's school, home and other educational professionals as needed to ensure that their academic needs are being met
- Be able to monitor and evaluate progress against agreed student targets and to provide detailed feedback
- Have the ability to work independently and take initiative in developing and implementing personalised learning plans for the student
- Have the capacity to engage, motivate, and support young people with additional needs
- Have the skills and experience to anticipate and manage behaviour positively, promoting self-control and independence
- Have the interpersonal skills needed to work successfully within teams
- Support the vision, ethos and policies of the school, including procedures around safeguarding and confidentiality
- Have an ability to use ICT to support and enhance the learning process
- Demonstrate an excellent command of professional English.

**Desirable**:

- A teaching qualification
- Prior experience of working in schools.
