Senior PostgreSQL Database Support Engineer

Key Responsibilities

- Team with some of the most well-known database experts in the industry, honing database skills and tackling complex problems within our group.

- Work with very large hardware on massive database deployments for global Fortune 50 companies, helping them resolve high‑complexity issues.

- Assist customers’ DBA teams with expert assistance on complex problems, gathering relevant data, investigating issues, and providing detailed analysis in email, instant message, or voice. Perform screen‑sharing sessions for serious production‑impacting issues.

- Author new blog posts, answer forum questions, create new articles for the customer‑facing knowledge base, and contribute to the open‑source community.

- Travel internationally for occasional team meetings, conferences, or customer visits, if required.

Qualifications

- Deep, hands‑on, expert knowledge of MySQL or PostgreSQL, including accompanying tools and common software in the surrounding ecosystem.

- For MySQL: familiarity with tools such as Percona Xtrabackup, mydumper, Point in Time Recovery, MySQL Orchestrator, HAProxy, ProxySQL, MySQL Router, InnoDB Cluster, and similar replication and high‑availability solutions.

- For PostgreSQL: familiarity with tools such as pgvector, repmgr, barman, pglogical, Patroni, pgBouncer, and similar/related tools.

- Experience with containerization and Kubernetes, including deployment, administration, and troubleshooting of MySQL or PostgreSQL within that environment.

- Experience with database performance tuning: server configuration, query optimization, table and index tuning.

- Demonstrable experience administering Linux systems.

- Methodical troubleshooting skills, identifying and applying fixes for known errors, and capacity to think outside the box for complex issues.

- Self‑taught, self‑directed, and enthusiastic about growing skills with new technologies.

- Fluency in communicating with customers in English, both verbally and in writing.

Desired Skills

- Kubernetes‑related certifications and training.

- Production experience using Percona’s Operators.

- Software development experience in C, C++, and Go.

- Advanced Linux troubleshooting tools (gdb, perf, strace, bpftrace, tcpdump, etc.).

- Experience with Percona’s other core database products, such as MongoDB, Valkey/Redis, Percona Monitoring and Management, and Percona Toolkit.

- Experience working in SLA‑bound technical support organisations.

- Success working remotely and using screen‑sharing, phone, Slack, Zoom, and similar technologies.

- Experience with cloud services such as AWS, RDS, Azure, and GCP.

- Excellent grasp of ANSI SQL 92 to 2016; ability to write/rewrite SQL involving Window functions and recursive CTEs.

- Open‑source community contributions.

- Active desire to serve as a subject‑matter expert and mentoring resource.

- Percona Support experience on topics related to this position.
