THE OPPORTUNITY

We are hiring a Senior Backend Software Engineer to our CARE team in Portugal We are looking for a passionate and skilled Software Engineer to join our team and help us build the next generation of AI-powered solutions.

This role focuses on generative AI, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), LLMs fine-tuning, and API integrations.

YOUR IMPACT

1. Generative AI Development: Design, develop, and implement generative AI-based applications.
2. Work with large language models (LLMs) to create innovative applications and solutions.
3. Conduct research to stay updated with the latest advancements in generative AI.
4. Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG): Develop and optimize RAG systems to enhance the performance and accuracy of AI models.
5. Implement robust data retrieval mechanisms to support RAG frameworks.
6. Collaborate with data engineers to ensure seamless integration of data pipelines.
7. API Development and Integration: Design and develop APIs to interface with various AI models and services.
8. Ensure APIs are secure, scalable, and performant.
9. Ensure seamless integration of our AI applications with other software systems, enhancing interoperability and functionality (e.g., WhatsApp, Slack, Teams, Google Chat, and other 3rd party mobile applications).
10. Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with cross-functional teams including product managers, designers, and other engineers.
11. Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers.
12. Communicate technical concepts and project progress effectively to non-technical stakeholders.

WHO YOU ARE

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field;

1. Experience in programming languages such as Python, Go, Java, C, or C++;
2. Experienced in working with SQL / NoSQL technologies (e.g., Open Search, Dynamo DB, Postgre SQL);
3. Experience with API development and integration;
4. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail;
5. Able to work efficiently on highly scalable and distributed projects;
6. Proven experience with projects where the scope is not clearly defined;
7. Fast learner, easily adapting to new technologies quickly and efficiently;
8. Passionate and proven experience to build reliable minimum viable products and pilots in a short amount of time;
9. Strong communication (both in English and Portuguese) skills.

For this specific role, please note that prior experience in software engineering and Python are mandatory requirements.

NICE TO HAVE

The following are considered to be a plus:

1. Proven experience with one or more topics listed in the Responsibilities section;
2. Familiarity with large language models, generative AI frameworks (e.g., Haystack, Langchain, Llama Index, Hugging Face, Ollama, AWS Bedrock);
3. Knowledge of retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and related technologies;
4. Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure);
5. Knowledge of data engineering and ETL processes (e.g., Spark, Flink);
6. Experience with machine learning frameworks and libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch);
7. Understanding of natural language processing (NLP) and computer vision;
8. Experience with Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration.
