Competitive Intelligence Manager

WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Commercial Intelligence team at Amgen is a key business partner that analyzes the competitive landscape, performs research, and provides strategic insight to the business. In this vital role, you will lead intelligence gathering activities for US and Global marketing teams to support multiple mature assets across Amgen's business units covering General Medicine/Inflammation/Oncology. You will develop productive relationships with Global and Regional teams to define business problems and develop integrated analysis plans based on standard methodologies.

The individual will need to be a strategic thought partner to key collaborators across disease area, brand, corporate, and other cross-functional teams supporting the corresponding US business units (OBU/IBBU/CBU).

You, as our Competitive Intelligence Manager, will have a deep understanding of biosimilars competition in support of mature brands across different business units. You will synthesize information from multiple sources to develop strategic insights and point of view on key competitive developments, implications to Amgen and actions Amgen must take. This critical role will deal in a matrix management environment, reporting to the Senior Director of Competitive Intelligence and US & Global Support Lead at the ACCP.

Other responsibilities include:

1. Work in a highly cross-functional manner and manage changing priorities across several key customers.
2. Apply structured problem solving to collect, analyze and report CI, incorporating primary and secondary data sources to generate meaningful insights.
3. Articulate and educate customers on the relevant impact of changing market dynamics to their business from a CI perspective.
4. Organize and facilitate strategic exercises & competitive simulations to generate competitive insights and company plans.
5. Coordinate and facilitate CI collection efforts at major medical conferences/congresses.
6. Manage a network of primary data sources, including vendors and Amgen employees, to enable effective project delivery.
7. Assess the reliability of CI research findings, maintaining high standards for accuracy, relevance, and quality in deliverables at all times and communicate level of evidence to key partners.
8. Present on a regular basis in-depth analyses and summaries of results, interpreting and communicating results with recommendations to key stakeholders.
9. Work to grow competitive intelligence/strategy to support other functions in the organization.
10. Abide by and strictly enforce Amgen's CI Legal and Ethical Guidelines with internal colleagues and agencies.
11. Some travel (15-20%) required.

WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU

Our ideal candidate is a strategic team player focusing on structure and critical thinking. He/she is problem-solving, result-oriented, and has time and process management skills.

Proven experience and skills needed:

1. Doctorate degree and 2 years of competitive intelligence/consulting/equity research/industry experience
2. Master's degree and 5 years of competitive intelligence/consulting/equity research/industry experience
3. Bachelor's degree and 7 years of competitive intelligence/consulting/equity research/industry experience
4. University Degree in business, finance, economics, mathematics, healthcare or related field.
5. Fluency in English, both in written and oral communication.
6. Strong Excel and PowerPoint knowledge

Preferred Requirements:

1. Advanced degree (MS/MBA/PhD) with a focus on life sciences and business
2. Experience with previous competitive intelligence role through agency and/or biopharma experience
3. Experience in biopharma industry
4. Relevant experience in Oncology/Obesity/Inflammation via prior project work, disease area knowledge, marketing/sales experience, etc.
5. Prior experience in strategy/management consulting in the biopharma industry preferably through a lead role
6. Prior experience as an equity research analyst within the biopharma industry
7. Consistent track record of influencing key business decisions through thoughtful insights and recommendations
8. Demonstrated ability to think strategically and analyze data to support critical business decisions
9. Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills—able to explain complex concepts clearly to a variety of audiences
10. Evident project management skills—able to manage multiple, simultaneous projects and data sources
11. Demonstrated analytical skills—understands the advantages and limits of different analytical approaches and studies
12. Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment
13. Strong understanding of the latest developments and trends in the Inflammation space, key competitive dynamics and unmet medical needs
14. Understanding of at least one other functional area in CD&A (forecasting, market research, and secondary analytics)
15. Experience in insights generation for the biopharmaceutical (or other healthcare) industries
