About the Role
Back Office Bermuda Ltd (BOB) is a Bermuda-based company providing outsourced business operations support to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). We help clients with day-to-day administration, customer communication, sales support, invoicing, accounting, bookkeeping, and operational execution. We are hiring a Senior Accountant to join our Lisbon-based client delivery team. This is full-time, client-facing role supporting Bermuda-based clients. The Senior Accountant will own day-to-day general ledger activities, drive the month-end close process, and ensure accurate financial reporting. This role suits a proactive professional with meticulous attention to detail, a love of problem-solving, and the confidence to communicate clearly with clients. You'll be expected to move comfortably from high-level financial analysis down to hands-on transactional work, and to deliver work to an excellent standard with little supervision. The role is fully remote to start and will transition to a hybrid Lisbon office model by the end of 2027. Title: Senior Accountant
Location:
Lisbon, Portugal Start Date: 1 December 2026, subject to notice period Contract: 12 months, full-time, renewable annually
Working Hours
11:00-20:00 Lisbon time, Monday to Friday (overlapping with Bermuda business hours) Compensation: €45,000
- €55,000 gross per year, paid monthly over 12 months, depending on experience Travel: Willingness to travel to Bermuda around twice a year What You’ll Do The Senior Accountant’s primary responsibility will be providing accounting support to four clients, with one client accounting for roughly 70% of the workload. The balance will be split across three smaller, less complex entities. Responsibilities include:
- Ensuring the integrity of accounting records by recording, verifying, and consolidating transactions.
- Verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling accounts payable and receivable.
- Keeping clients compliant with their legal and regulatory obligations, including preparing and reconciling statutory filings and ensuring government payments are made on time.
- Owning the month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement).
- Analysing financial trends, preparing cash flow forecasts, and supporting budget preparation and variance analysis.
- Supporting internal controls and recommending process improvements, including software or controls that improve the speed and accuracy of reporting.
- Acting as the day-to-day accounting contact for your clients, explaining results and resolving queries.
- Taking on ad hoc projects as needed, such as integrating the accounts of combined entities. What We’re Looking For Required:
- A widely recognised accounting certification – Contabilista Certificado (OCC), ACCA, ACA, CPA (US or Canada), CIMA, or equivalent
- Familiarity with IFRS or GAAP (US or Canadian); hands-on reporting experience under either is a strong plus
- At least five years of accounting experience
- Strong Excel skills and experience with cloud-based accounting platforms, such as QuickBooks Online or Xero
- Business-fluent English, written and spoken – this is a client-facing role
- Based in Lisbon, with the legal right to work in Portugal Preferred:
- Strong preference for candidates with hands-on experience integrating or consolidating the accounts of two entities, for example after an acquisition or merger
- Experience at start-ups or scale-ups Personal data submitted with your application will be used solely for this recruitment process and handled in accordance with the GDPR.
