BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for a Laboratory Team Leader at our new production plant in Viana, Portugal.

Key Accountabilities

1. Organizes, plans, prioritizes, operates, and monitors the daily activities of the Product Failure Analysis laboratory and facilities.
2. Supervises laboratory employees conducting and overseeing failures analysis activities, collecting, analyzing and interpreting lab results in accordance with company procedures.
3. Performs clerical duties, maintaining records and files and compiling data and reports as required.
4. Maintains laboratory supplies and materials inventory.
5. Develops and implements systems designed to support assay development, stability, raw material and finished product testing.
6. Facilitates the evaluation of new testing applications and instrumentation.
7. Adapts and applies laboratory methods, practices, and techniques common to designated area.
8. Assists staff and other functions by providing guidance to resolve problems with instruments, test methods and use of lab equipment.
9. Performs routine maintenance and repair.
10. Initiates purchase requisitions, controls expenditures, prepares cost estimates for budget recommendation and submits justifications and requests for capital outlay items.
11. Performs all duties to maintain all standards in accordance with company policies, procedures, and core values.
12. Ensures safe laboratory conditions including safe handling and storage of supplies and equipment.
13. Acts as liaison with external parties on matters relating to failures analysis lab, metrology lab, testing status, approvals, rejections, documentation status, and any other subject to support all internal departments and customers.
14. Continuously ensures the improvement of health, safety and environmental conditions.
15. Participates in the definition, implementation and maintenance of the organization's policies.
16. Ensures compliance with environmental, health and safety at work standards, policies and practices.
17. Develops a culture characterized by good professional ethics and involvement among employees.
18. Performs other duties and tasks on assigned special projects and assignments based on unique laboratory needs.

Education & Experience

1. Secondary education in a related technical area.
2. Preferably two or more years of experience as Supervisor.
3. Understand how to read electrical schematics and use manufacturers' product data sheets.
4. Ability to setup and utilize standard test equipment such as oscilloscopes, power analyzers, power supplies and digital multimeters.
5. Ability to use instrumentation such as thermocouples, RTDs, strain gauges, accelerometers, pressure gauges, and flow meters.
6. Conduct environmental testing (thermal, vibration, humidity).
7. Conduct ESD Testing.
8. Hands-on approach: Proactively identifies and fills in gaps where needed.
9. Good computer skills.
10. Results Oriented.
11. Interpersonal Communication.
12. Fluent in English.
13. Fluent in Portuguese.
