OPEN CALL FOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP
Nova SBE/BII/2025/07
A call for applications for a Research Initiation Fellowship is open at Nova School of Business and Economics (NOVA SBE) under the Project Research Fellowship – Junior Data Consultant under the Project "MutualData - Digitalization of the Mutual Observatory", developed by Nova SBE Data, Operations & Technology Knowledge Center and funded by APM-RedeMut – Associação Portuguesa de Mutualidades, with the following conditions:
1. All candidates should be currently enrolled in a master's program and available to dedicate part-time to the fellowship (mandatory).
2. Background in Management, Economics, Engineering or Data Science (preferred).
3. Additional courses or experiences in Data related subjects (preferred).
4. Demonstrated interest in social good (e.g., worked with or for a non-profit/ impact driven organization) (preferred).
5. Fluency in Portuguese, both written and verbal (mandatory).
The Nova SBE Data, Operations & Technology Knowledge Center (DOT KC) aims to advance the knowledge about data-driven decision-making and its application in society. Our position in a school of business and economics, and our understanding of social sciences, technology, programming, and statistical methods, allow us to bridge the gap between organizations and technology that generates processes and uses data for creating impact.
By joining the DOT KC, you will be part of one or more project teams that can be composed of a Principal Investigator (Faculty member), a Project Manager, and Data Scientists/ Analysts/ Consultants as needed, considering the project goals.
The Researcher will be part of the "MutualData - Digitalization of the Mutual Observatory" project team, an initiative that aims to streamline and automate the processes of data collection, management and dissemination on the activity and impact of mutuals.
Main responsibilities:
1. To support the collection and systematisation of data obtained through the MutualData questionnaire.
2. Compiling, organising and analysing responses, identifying patterns and trends, and presenting results clearly in graphs and tables.
3. Contribute to the preparation of the report, particularly in analysing the data and formulating conclusions.
4. Assist in the definition and improvement of data collection instruments, ensuring their suitability for the project objectives.
5. Ensure the integrity and quality of the data collected, applying verification and validation techniques.
6. Contribute to the communication of results, by preparing summary materials and supporting the dissemination of the final report.
7. Contribute to the identification of opportunities to optimise the digitisation and automation of MutualData's data management processes.
The researcher will participate in daily check-ins with the team, weekly internal and external status meetings, and any other meetings related to the project.
The research will be conducted at Nova SBE under the scientific supervision of Professor Leid Zejnilovic (or remotely, according to the needs of the project).
The fellowship will have a duration of 4 months, with possibility of renewal for the length of the project, subject to periodic reviews. The fellowship will be awarded on an exclusive basis, as stated in Regulations for Nova SBE Scholarships and/or Regulations for Studentships and Fellowships of FCT, I.P.
The fellowship amounts to €651,12, according to the table of monthly stipends available in the Regulations for Nova SBE Scholarships.
The selection will be carried upon the evaluation of the CV (20%), motivation letter (10%), data challenge (30%), and interview (40%).

- Detailed Curriculum Vitae;
- Transcripts of diplomas or degrees with final grades and other documents demonstrating the candidate's suitability for the required profile;
- (OPTIONAL) For degrees obtained abroad applicants must submit the recognition of the academic degree and the converted final grade to the Portuguese grading scale (following the Decree-Law no 341/2007 of 12 October), or the recognition of foreign qualifications (following the Decree-Law no. 283/83, of 21 June).
In accordance with the article 12 of Regulamento de Bolsas de Investigação Científica of Nova SBE, the candidate can appeal from the decision with the Scientific Council of Nova SBE, Faculdade de Economia da UNL, within 10 working days.
