The Role

As part of our strategic growth, we are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer who will work within a multi‑disciplinary engineering team to bring water and wastewater infrastructure projects from concept through to construction. In this role you will develop engineering design solutions that meet the client’s needs, ensuring successful commissioning to the final project outcome.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

- Ensure Health, Safety, Environmental, Sustainability & Quality standards, policies and procedures are incorporated into all designs and outputs.

- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines – Process, Mechanical, Control & Automation, Civil and Structural – to achieve optimal design solutions.

- Reporting to the Electrical Design Manager, compile and review M&I listings, electrical load balances, MIC load calculations, medium‑voltage design, generator sizing for backup, general electrical services, lighting and emergency lighting, earthing and lightning protection, cable sizing/schedules, I/O of listings, control panel drawings/ schematics, and specialist reports on harmonics.

- Design solar PV generation, battery storage and renewable generators for small applications.

- Procure packages for LV works such as Main Distribution Boards, MCCs, control panels, automation hardware/software, starters, electrical installation works, earthing and lightning protection. Procure MV packages such as distribution transformers, MV switchgear and specialist design services.

- Manage third‑party design consultants as required and provide technical & commercial reviews of tender returns, ensuring value for money and alignment to standards. Recommend to procurement.

- Provide detailed and robust handover to site delivery teams, addressing design comments and construction-related queries.

- Assistance with tender preparation and pricing of electrical works.

- Promote concepts from Glanua Business Strategy, including off‑site manufacturing, digitalised ways of working and sustainability.

- Encourage innovative technology and new ways of working within the team.

- Mitigate risk through effective design and risk mitigation measures throughout the life cycle of the design process.

- Embed local asset and electrical standards, WIMES, etc. into designs and stay up‑to‑date with the latest standards and technology through continuous professional development.

- Perform other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

- Relevant Electrical/Electronic Engineering Qualification.

- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably in the water and wastewater industry.

- Experience in LV power distribution, LV motor control systems (VSDs, soft‑starts, intelligent starters), and interrogation of electrical design drawings and panel schematics.

- Ability to develop sub‑contractor electrical design/work packages and draft layouts using AutoCAD and other standards.

- Familiarity with electrical design packages such as Etap, Trimble Design Products (Amtech), Dialux, Eplan, Autodesk Products is desirable.

- Knowledge of PLC/HMI/SCADA systems, network architecture, communications protocols, and medium‑voltage electrical equipment is desirable.

- Strong problem‑solving skills, initiative and ability to work under pressure to deliver project objectives.

- Excellent working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).

- Strong communication skills and high motivation.

- Level 7/8 bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a minimum of 5 years’ experience, preferably in the water & wastewater sector.

- Excellent interpersonal, planning, organisational, training, teamwork and presentation skills.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and IT skills including numeric and literacy skills.

- Full Clean European driving licence.
