Role: Senior Backend Engineer
Location: Remote, Portugal
Required skills
- 6+ years of hands-on backend development experience with production systems
- Significant experience building financial applications (fintech, banking, payments, trading platforms, or investment systems)
- Strong Test-Driven Development (TDD) practices you write tests first and maintain comprehensive coverage
- Solid understanding of Domain-Driven Design (DDD) principles to model complex business domains effectively
- Experience with cloud architecture, particularly AWS serverless and managed services (Lambda, RDS, Cognito)
- Proficiency in database design, especially PostgreSQL, including schema design and performance optimization
- Proven experience in building secure REST APIs with authentication and authorization mechanisms
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js for production-grade systems
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
- Startup mentality comfortable with ambiguity, proactive, and able to work autonomously
Nice to have
- Experience with multi-currency systems or investment platforms
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
- Experience with event-driven architectures and message queues
- Understanding of regulatory and compliance frameworks (e.g., KYC/AML)
- Knowledge of financial modeling or accounting principles
- Arabic language skills or experience with RTL/internationalization
Tasks
- Design and build scalable backend services and APIs using TypeScript/Node.js
- Architect data models and implement complex financial business logic
- Practice Test-Driven Development and maintain high test coverage
- Apply Domain-Driven Design principles to accurately model financial domains
- Own AWS infrastructure decisions and implementation (Lambda, RDS, Cognito)
- Design and optimize PostgreSQL databases and data models
- Build secure REST APIs with proper authentication and authorization
- Take initiative on technical decisions that impact product direction
- Collaborate directly with product and business stakeholders
- Debug production issues, optimize performance, and ensure system reliability
