Controls Assistant Lead Engineer - Porto Assistant Lead Engineer - Controls – Porto Vestas Technology & Operations > Frontend Engineering & Technology > TOE - Loads & Controls department (Service LaC) plays a key role within Vestas Service. Our mission is to design new products and optimize the existing fleet, ensuring its performance is aligned with that of new turbines. Department - Rotor upgrades (including for multiple brands) - Software products such as Power Plus - Site-specific controller tuning - Field issue management (alarms and optimization) - Service cost-reduction initiatives - Predictive maintenance strategies Your role as Assistant Lead Engineer - Controls You will be responsible for developing control solutions that unlock new business opportunities within Service, always ensuring compliance with design standards. The team for this position is based in India, Denmark, Spain and Portugal. Responsibilities - Develop and tune control algorithms - Implement algorithms in MATLAB/Simulink - Analyze turbine and fleet performance data for optimization - Conduct feasibility studies for new turbine products (power, loads, noise optimization) - Verify developments through software testing and field trials - Support risk management activities (evaluations, failure modes, and effects analysis) - Contribute to innovation and conceptual projects - Maintain a holistic view of turbine components and control strategy Qualifications & Experience - PhD / Master’s / Bachelor’s in electrical, electromechanical, instrumentation & control, automation, or similar - 1‑3 years of experience in simulation/modeling (MATLAB/Simulink) - Extensive background in mathematical modeling of electromechanical and hydraulic systems - Solid knowledge in model‑based control design and tuning - Robust understanding of control theory principles - Programming in C++ and SQL - Knowledge of power generation concepts and aerodynamics - Wind turbine control experience What we offer - A role in a global, collaborative, and motivating environment - Opportunity to develop innovative ideas and enhance technical skills - Professional and personal growth in a matrix organization with technical leadership, line management, and project opportunities - A diverse and inclusive workplace that values different backgrounds and experiences - Opportunity to grow your professional career in an international environment Location and Travel Porto, Portugal Travels: 2–3 weeks per year Equal Opportunity & Diversity At Vestas, we evaluate all candidates solely based on their professional experience, education, and relevant skills.
