Our client is a global consultancy seeking an experienced Java Developer, offering a 12 month rolling freelance opportunity to work within a large EU project team.

Description of Responsibilities

- Develop, maintain, and operate backend software applications with a strong focus on Java across multiple versions (including legacy and modern)
- Design, implement, and optimise RESTful APIs, microservices, and multi-tier backend architectures
- Perform code reviews, debugging, performance optimisation, and participate in unit, integration, and acceptance testing activities
- Participate in technical discussions, sprint activities, and meetings with stakeholders, including developers, project managers, and architects

Experience & Skills

- Minimum 7 years of professional backend software development experience, with strong hands-on expertise across multiple Java versions (including EJBs and modern Java)
- Proven experience designing and developing backend services, APIs, microservices, and multi-tier architectures
- Experience with RESTful API development and integration, plus solid version control experience (Git)
- Portuguese bilingual speaker (mandatory) and advanced level of English; must be an EU citizen
- Strong understanding of common SDLC methodologies (Agile/Scrum/Waterfall)
- Ability to work independently in a near-site remote model and collaborate effectively with international teams
