Company Description Storming Universe Ldais a spinoff from theFaculty of Engineering, University of Porto, specialized in developinglong-range drone solutionsfor critical missions such as logistics and humanitarian transport. Our team focuses onlightweight composite aircraft structures, combining innovation and engineering excellence to make advanced UAV technologyaccessible, efficient, and impactful. Role Description This is an on-site/remote contract role for a Design Engineer, located in Porto, Portugal. The engineer will support the design and development of the company's prototype and future aircraft models. Daily work involves: Detailed structural and composite design inSiemens NX / FiberSim Development oflay-up books, laminate manuals, jigs, and molds Structural sizing and FEM support for weight optimization Collaboration with the manufacturing team duringlay-up, curing, and assemblyphases The role also includes documenting themanufacturing workflow(Plybook and Composite Layup Guide) and working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure performance, quality, and manufacturability. Qualifications Degree inMechanical, Aerospace, or Materials Engineering, or equivalent experience Strong knowledge ofcomposite materialsandaerospace structures Proficiency inSiemens NXandFiberSim(essential) Experience creatinglay-up books, laminate manuals, andcomposite tooling/jigs Familiarity withFEM-based structural sizing and optimization Good understanding ofcomposite manufacturing processes(hand lay-up, vacuum bagging, curing) Team-oriented, proactive, and hands-on approach to prototype work Prior experience in UAV or light-aircraft design is an advantage
