Sterilization Specialist

A challenging and rewarding role has become available at Memorial Hermann, as we seek a skilled Sterilization Specialist to join our team in the Operating Room department.

About the Role:

• This is a full-time position responsible for ensuring the preparation and packaging of surgical instruments/equipment for sterilization using principles of Standard Precautions and Event Related Sterility.
• The ideal candidate will have a minimum of one year's experience in a sterile processing department or equivalent experience in a related surgical services environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Accurately handle and care for instruments/equipment, including selecting cleaning agents, lubricants, examining for function, identifying and assembling according to count sheet, and preparing for sterilization.
• Identify, document, and report equipment and tools in need of repair and ensure maintenance is completed.
• Organize, prepare, assemble, and sterilize instruments, equipment, and supplies according to hospital/medical facility standards of sterilization.
• Correctly peel-pack supplies/instruments, wrap instruments for sterilization, inspect each instrument for use, function, completeness, and cleanliness.
• Load, monitor, operate, and maintain different types of cleaning and sterilization equipment and machinery accurately and safely.
• Assist in maintaining records of all equipment and supplies, ordering supplies as needed, and monitoring quality control and infection control standards.

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Certification in Sterile Processing preferred.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions in English language.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Ability to lift and/or maneuver supplies and equipment in conjunction with others in order to perform job functions.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Be able to work in a team environment.

Estimated Salary: €20,000 - 30,000 per annum, based on location and industry standards.
