We are seeking a highly motivated research fellow to join our team at Ibet Portugal. The successful candidate will be involved in the project 'Glyco-TAM – Cracking glycan-lectin interactions to target immunosuppressive macrophages in triple-negative breast cancer'.
The fellow will study glycan-lectin interactions between breast cancer cells and tumor-associated macrophages, employing a human TME cell model based on long-term 3D co-culture of human cancer cells, fibroblasts, and immune cells. This involves combining cell entrapment in biomaterials and bioreactor technology, and exploring it using glycan microarray technology and related glyco-technologies.
The main objectives of this project are to achieve a comprehensive characterization of the immunosuppressive tumor-associated macrophage in TNBC, and to propose candidate biomarkers predictive of the response to immunomodulatory drugs, as well as potential targets for novel cancer therapies.
The fellowship has a duration of 6 months, eventually renewed until the end of the project, without prejudice to the maximum limits foreseen by law. We expect the successful candidate to have expertise in molecular glycosciences, particularly in the study of glycan-protein interactions, as well as experience in glycan microarray technology, glycoprotein (mucin)/glycan purification and analysis, molecular biology, and recombinant protein production, characterization, and detection.
Key Responsibilities:
- Study glycan-lectin interactions between breast cancer cells and tumor-associated macrophages
- Employ a human TME cell model based on long-term 3D co-culture of human cancer cells, fibroblasts, and immune cells
- Explore the model using glycan microarray technology and related glyco-technologies
- Characterize the immunosuppressive tumor-associated macrophage in TNBC
- Propose candidate biomarkers predictive of the response to immunomodulatory drugs, as well as potential targets for novel cancer therapies
Requirements:
- Doctorate in Biochemistry, Biology or related fields, with specialization in Glycobiology obtained less than 3 years ago
- Expertise in molecular glycosciences, particularly in the study of glycan-protein interactions
- Experience in glycan microarray technology, glycoprotein (mucin)/glycan purification and analysis, molecular biology, and recombinant protein production, characterization, and detection
- Knowledge in oncoimmunology and tumor microenvironment will be valued
- Motivation for applied biomedical research
- Proficient use of the English language (written and spoken)
