**Job Opportunity - Postdoctoral Research Fellow**
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our multidisciplinary team at the Gulbenkian Institute for Molecular Medicine (GIMM) as part of the project 'CENTAUR – Creating and refining whole-genome and core-genome typing schemas for pathogen surveillance'. This fellowship is funded by the ISIDORe Joint Research Activities, European Union.
Key Responsibilities:
- To develop and apply high-throughput sequencing data analysis pipelines for bacterial identification, virulence factors, and antimicrobial resistance.
- To participate actively in the development of new analysis methods, specifically improving whole-genome multilocus sequence typing schemes.
- To conduct high-throughput sequencing data analysis for the characterization of outbreaks and microbial population evolution in both hospital and community settings.
- To analyze high-throughput sequencing results for phylogenetic and population structure analyses of human pathogenic bacteria.
- To develop tools that generate analysis reports usable by epidemiologists and other healthcare professionals without advanced bioinformatics knowledge.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
We are looking for candidates with a strong background in Bioinformatics, Microbiology, Biology, Health Sciences, Computer Science, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences or related fields. The ideal candidate should have a PhD obtained less than 3 years ago, proficiency in working with the Linux operating system, and strong scripting skills in bash. Additionally, experience with Python programming, working with high-throughput sequencing data, and bacterial population genomic analysis are considered advantages.
