The Role

We're seeking an exceptional Engineering Manager to lead our payout, settlement, tax, and ledger products within the payments group. This role presents an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a challenging and transformative environment, driving our success through innovative leadership.

Selling online as a software business involves numerous components working seamlessly to capture revenue and deliver it to sellers. Paddle handles payments, taking this burden from our customers. We process millions of payments globally and make thousands of payouts across multiple balance currencies every month, ensuring accurate tax remittance in all jurisdictions.

Responsibilities
  • Foster the delivery of initiatives to a high standard from initial concept and planning through to rollout, collaborating with engineers and non-technical colleagues.
  • Hire, manage, and coach engineers in your team, enabling them to develop personally and professionally, and perform together with impact.
  • Partner with the team's Product Manager to create a roadmap for success, ensuring the team works effectively for maximum (and sustainable) impact.
  • Drive improvements to processes and practices within the team, exercising autonomy to do what you believe is right and change what isn't working.
  • Oversight of technical decisions made within your team, and responsibility for the technical strategy within the product area owned by the team.
Requirements
  • A passion for developing people and at least 1 year of management experience with several direct reports.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a senior software engineer working on complex, large-scale, cloud-based systems.
  • A strong understanding of what it means to be a high-performing and sustainable engineering team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable leading technical discussions with engineers and non-technical colleagues.
  • Experience in building products handling payments, transfers, and financial reconciliation, with a keen interest in money movements.
  • Comfortable working closely with financial, risk, and legal stakeholders, ensuring systems are reliable, compliant, and scalable.
  • Proactive and self-aware, always open to improving and pushing yourself to get better.
