About the Role

The Software Engineer at Sovos will leverage technology to solve complex problems at scale, taking into consideration aspects like security, performance, reliability, and maintainability. This role challenges the individual to adapt quickly and work effectively as a developer, sharing technical knowledge and building and deploying high-quality software that satisfies our customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, test, deploy, and maintain a client-facing API hosted in the Apigee Edge SaaS platform.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Product Owners, Architects, and Business Analysts to refine requirements and designs.
  • Participate on cross-functional teams to deliver solutions from the point of inception through customer delivery.
  • Seize opportunities to improve processes, standards, and practices.
  • Work as a team member and with more senior developers on complex stories and tasks.
  • Develop software consistent with Sovos coding standards and conventions.
  • Collaborate in a fast-paced agile environment under tight deadlines to “ship” new releases each sprint.
  • Take part in an active culture of learning by exploring new technologies and participating in knowledge sharing.

Requirements

  • Competent in SDLC and an active participant in all major activities (Planning, Stand Up, Story Time, etc.).
  • Develop skills using TDD and CI practices.
  • Function competently as an individual contributor, completing relatively small tasks independently.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Development Managers, Quality Assurance, Business Analyst, and other technical staff to refine requirements and designs.
  • Participate on cross-functional teams to deliver solutions from the point of inception through customer delivery.
  • Improve processes, standards, and practices.
  • Work as a team member and with more senior developers on complex stories and tasks.
  • Develop programs consistent with Sovos coding standards and conventions.
  • Build skills in at least one specific technical expertise (Web-Services, RESTful APIs, Web Development, etc.).
  • Able to triage and resolve simple engineering escalations.
  • Work with other team members to solve complex problems.
  • Capable of troubleshooting issues and bugs within the area of application with expertise.
  • Applies defined practices/procedures to design, implement, and support individual software projects.
  • Authors or contributes to technical design documentation, release notes, bug fix documentation.
  • Performs and designs testing protocols to ensure that the product is fully tested.
  • Delivers production-ready code of high quality that satisfies all functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Multitasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining integrity, reliability, ethical practices, and a professional focus on projects.
  • Knowledge of any object-oriented programming languages like .NET/C#, JavaScript, , or Python.
  • Knowledge of XML, JSON, SOAP, RESTful APIs.
  • Expertise on NodeJS framework and NPM packages.
  • Expertise on Unit-Testing with (Jest, Mocha, etc.).
  • Knowledge of OAS3.
  • Knowledge of markup languages (HTML, JavaScript (ES5/ES6), and jQuery).
  • Expertise on such tools like APIGEE (Kong, Mulesoft, Layer7, API Mgmt Tools) is a plus.
  • Advanced English skills (written and verbal).
  • Experience with unit and integration tests and frameworks like Jest or Mocha.
