Our External Affairs Manager role in Portugal offers a unique opportunity to work on high-profile projects and collaborate with various stakeholders.

Job Description

Salary: €70,000 - €90,000 per annum, depending on experience

As an External Affairs Manager in Portugal, you will develop external affairs strategies in close collaboration with our Iberia Head of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs and the Iberian Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Team. You will engage with government authorities, regulatory bodies, and other external stakeholders to advocate for our interests and drive positive change. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing strategies on Next Generation Products (NGPs) from a regulatory and corporate equity standpoint
  • Identifying and driving proposals for regulatory and fiscal changes that balance business needs and protect consumer interests
  • Building relationships with government officials, regulators, and other stakeholders to promote our vision
  • Providing ongoing support to functions on political, regulatory, excise, and trade issues
Required Skills and Qualifications

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced professional with a minimum of 5 years of proven experience in government and regulatory affairs. Key qualifications include:

  • In-depth knowledge of the Portuguese and European political and institutional ecosystem
  • Direct experience in dealing with high-ranking government and trade officials on complex issues
  • Experience in setting up collaboration schemes with academic institutions, think-tanks, business associations, and civil society bodies
  • National lobbying and campaigning experience, as well as an understanding of the sensitivities and complexities involved in the tobacco industry
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills at the highest ethical standards
