Optimization Researcher

Job Opportunity: We are seeking an exceptional Optimization Researcher to join our team at Instituto de TelecomunicaÇões in Coimbra, Portugal.

About the Project: The selected candidate will work on the optimization of a high-resolution FMCW LiDAR system using a directly modulated semiconductor laser.

Key Responsibilities:

• 
  
• Establishment of an experimental software-defined experimental testbed.
  
• Assessment of the laser chirp nonlinearity.
  
• Implementation of pre-distortion algorithms for chirp nonlinearity compensation.
  
• Experimental validation and optimization of the developed pre-distortion methods.
  

Requirements: Candidates must be enrolled in PhD studies in telecommunications engineering or equivalent, or enrolled in a course at the University of Coimbra that does not confer an academic degree, with knowledge in optical communication systems, great motivation, and ability for teamwork.

Work Environment: The work will be developed at the premises of Instituto de TelecomunicaÇões in Coimbra, under the supervision of Prof. Maria do Carmo Raposo de Medeiros.

Duration and Salary: The scholarship is for 6 months, with the possibility of renewal, and offers a monthly salary of 1,259.64 € (net), according to the table of grant amounts awarded directly by FCT for positions held in Portugal.

Selection Criteria: The candidate will be selected based on their CV, demonstrated experience in tasks related to the work plan of this project, interview, and oral and written fluency in English.
