Inria, the French national research institute for the digital sciences is seeking a Research Engineer to contribute to the development of curiosity-driven learning algorithms. These algorithms have enabled both a better understanding of learning mechanisms in humans and the construction of machines/robots capable of efficiently exploring and learning repertoires of diverse tasks in high-dimensional spaces.
The Flowers team has recently discovered that these algorithms can be applied to a family of problems of great scientific and industrial importance: the automated exploration of complex systems. This work has helped to introduce and develop a new field of research in artificial intelligence: intrinsically motivated learning.
This position aims to apply automated exploration algorithms to a novel use case: the characterization of interference patterns in multi-core architectures. Such architectures are complex systems due to temporal dependencies and strong interferences among programs executing in parallel. Our automated discovery algorithms can be very useful to characterize their behavior.
We are part of a larger national research project on Analysing Interferences with AI (AIxIA), involving several partners with expertise in AI, onboard systems, multi-core architectures, system-on-chips, GPUs, and temporal analysis.
Responsibilities- Understanding in detail the problem of interference characterization in such architectures
- Studying and formalizing how automated discovery algorithms can be applied to this problem
- Adapting and extending the automated discovery algorithms currently implemented in the adtools library
- Running large-scale experiments to evaluate the method and refine it
- Analyzing the resulting data and publishing the results
This contract duration is 18 months, starting as soon as possible.
Requirements- Strong interest in AI and complex systems, with a motivation to apply state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms to concrete engineering problems
- Scientific programming skills in Python, Machine Learning algorithms and frameworks (e.g. Pytorch, JAX)
- Prior experience with distributed computing architectures is a plus
- Partial reimbursement of public transport costs
