About the Position
The NOVA Institute for Medical Systems Biology (NIMSB) is seeking a visionary leader to pioneer a cutting-edge research infrastructure focused on service, research, and development of computational methods for large-scale integration and analysis of multidimensional data from single-cell and spatial omics modalities. The selected candidate will work closely with other NIMSB principal investigators and technology platform leaders to develop, establish and provide seamless workflows in state-of-the-art analyses methods for the NIMSB scientific community and its partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish, lead and oversee operations of the NIMSB Data Science Technology Platform.
- Collaborate with NIMSB leadership to develop and implement a strategic plan for the platform's operational and scientific goals; ensuring alignment with NIMSB scientific mission.
- Implement and develop innovative and effective computational methods that are of relevance to the institute and to the research community, in collaboration with researchers and other NIMSB Technology Platforms.
- Recruit, manage and mentor a team, ensuring quality, performance and professional growth.
- Secure extra-mural funding for dedicated research projects.
- Manage and optimize the platform's budget, including planning, forecasting, and regular financial oversight, ensuring sustainable and effective resource allocation.
Requirements and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in computer sciences or bioinformatics, or quantitative fields with application to biology or genomics. They should have knowledge and demonstrated experience with different omics modalities and analysis methods, as well as strong programming skills, with extensive experience in scientific software development, relational databases, and workflow management systems. Leadership, supervision, and management skills, as well as the ability to build and foster scientific collaborations and partnerships, are also essential.
