About the Job

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant to join our team at Buscojobs Portugal. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for overseeing financial operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, and managing financial reporting.

Responsibilities

  1. Prepare financial statements, tax returns, and financial reports in accordance with Portuguese accounting regulations.
  2. Monitor cash flow, accounts payable, and receivable to maintain financial health.
  3. Conduct financial analysis to support business decision-making.
  4. Ensure compliance with Portuguese GAAP (SNC - Sistema de Normalização Contabilística) and other relevant financial regulations.
  5. Oversee VAT, corporate tax, and other statutory tax filings, ensuring timely submission.
  6. Develop and manage budgets, providing regular financial forecasts and variance analysis.
  7. Support senior management in strategic financial planning and investment decisions.
  8. Establish and maintain internal financial controls to mitigate risks and ensure transparency.
  9. Conduct periodic audits and financial reviews to ensure compliance and efficiency.
  10. Collaborate with internal departments such as HR, operations, and procurement to ensure proper financial planning and cost control.
  11. Communicate with external partners, including banks, auditors, and tax authorities, to facilitate financial operations.
  12. Supervise and mentor junior accountants, ensuring professional development and high-quality output.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Certified Accountant qualification (Ordem dos Contabilistas Certificados - OCC) in Portugal is mandatory.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, finance, or auditing in Portugal.
  • Strong knowledge of Portuguese tax laws, financial regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with financial software and ERP systems.
  • Fluency in English and Portuguese is mandatory; additional languages are an asset.
