A research position for one Research Grant (“Bolsa de Investigação”) is open at Instituto de Telecomunicações, in the scope of the Project UNIFY: Compilation Abstraction and Hardware Adaptation for Specialized and General-Purpose Computing Unification with Nr/Ref. 2022.06780.PTDC. This project is funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia.

**Admission Requirements**:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering with an average final grade greater than or equal to 14 points (scale 0 to 20).
- Proven knowledge of computer architectures, streaming architectures, parallel processing, as well as experience working with RSIC-V processors, as well as programming in C/C++, Python, VHDL, Verilog, and System Verilog.
- Proficiency in Portuguese or English.
Research grants are intended:
- for students enrolled in a degree-conferring course to carry out R&D activities with the aim to consolidate their scientific training through the development of research work leading to the attainment of the respective academic degree or completion of the course (integrated or not in R&D projects).
- for students enrolled in courses that do not confer an academic degree, but which are integrated in an educational project of a higher education institution and are developed in association or cooperation with one or several R&D units.
**Work Objectives**:
Work Objectives: The work to be carried out in the context of this scholarship has the main objective of developing streaming processors and technology to improve data access in memory. The work plan will consist of the following topics:
- Study and integrated an existing RVV-compliant vector unit with the RISC-V core, under the OpenPiton platform.
- Optimize and extend the vector unit to increase throughput and energy efficiency by exploring long vector processing techniques.
- Dissemination of the main results and achievements through the publication of a scientific article in a conference/journal of the area.

The work will be developed at the premises of Instituto de Telecomunicações at Coimbra, under the supervision of Professor Gabriel Falcão Paiva Fernandes.
**Duration**:
Six months, possibly renewable. Start date: September 1st, 2025 or soon thereafter.
**Monthly salary**:
1 040,98 € According to the table of grant amounts awarded directly by FCT for positions held in Portugal
The payment will be made by bank transfer.
