**What’s the opportunity about?**:
Unbabel is looking for a curious and motivated Backend Development Intern to join our Engineering Team. As we deliver seamless, scalable translation solutions across platforms for enterprise partners, you’ll gain hands-on experience designing and building backend systems that power intelligent, multilingual workflows.

**Key Details**:

- **Location**: Hybrid in Lisbon (at least 2x per week in the office)
- **Duration**: 6 months
- **Salary**: €1,000/month gross
- ️ **Working language**: English

**Responsibilities**:

- Work with engineers to design and implement new backend features and integrations.
- Help maintain, test, and optimize our codebases.
- Collaborate to solve real problems and deliver practical solutions for our business partners.
- Participate in code reviews and team discussions to learn best practices in code quality and architecture.
- Assist with troubleshooting and debugging backend systems.
- Document your work to help improve our team’s processes.
- Learn about cloud platforms, API design, and database structures (with mentorship).

**Requirements**:

- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Some programming experience (Python or another language).
- Understanding of basic software engineering concepts and willingness to learn about REST APIs and system integrations.
- Interest in working with databases (e.g., SQL, NoSQL).
- Good communication skills in English.
- Collaborative mindset and motivation to ask questions and seek feedback.

**Nice to Have**:

- Exposure to Python frameworks (FastAPI, Flask, Django, etc.).
- Familiarity with version control (Git).
- Awareness of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, etc.), containerization (Docker), or microservices.
