Head of Safety, Security, and Transportation

St. Julian’s School is looking for an experienced health & safety and security specialist to join our team as **Head of Safety, Security, and Transportation.**

Founded in 1932, we are a highly successful, non-selective 3-18 British international school with a reputation for academic excellence. We currently have just over 1,200 students from over 50 different nationalities. The School has three sections: Primary, Secondary, and Portuguese.

We are accredited by CIS (Council of International Schools), COBIS (Council of British International Schools) and NEASC (New England Association of Schools and Colleges). Our Head is an International Member of HMC (Heads' Conference).

**Key Responsibilities**:
**Safety & Security**:

- Establish and maintain a maximum level of security aligned with the school's high expectation for safety.
- Act as health & safety officer and emergency response officer, keeping abreast with relative regulations in these areas and undertaking relevant training of staff as required.
- Create and enforce Health and Safety Policy and procedures that are effective and compliant with legislative and international schools regulations.
- Design and implement security policies, programmes, and practices to protect the assets of the school, and those of the community members (students, staff and visitors).
- Update and communicate the school's Health and Safety Policy and safety procedures to all relevant stakeholders
- Make operational decisions to ensure compliance for the safety of all students, staff and visitors
- Be responsible for all risk assesments and associated control measures undertaken within the school, ensuring they are prepared, reviewed and updated as required and that accurate records are maintained across all areas of the school and communicated appropriately.
- Plan, perform and document emergency evacuation drills, lockdown drills and alarm tests.
- Conduct regular safety tours and inspections to identify potential risks and implement necessary measures; establish programs of audits, inspections, spot checks and surveys, maintaining an up to date schedule of all monitoring activities.
- Analyse campus incidents and develop preventive measures
- Ensure students, parents, and visitors access the school campus in a safe manne
- Foster a positive health and safety culture through regular communication and consultation with employees and parents,
- Lead health and safety initiatives
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all safety and security-related matters.
- Act as a liaison with local emergency services agencies and maintain a cooperative relationship with them
- Offer support to the Head of Facilities and Head of School Operations and Events, to ensure the school campus is safe, the projects of improving the facilities are done in compliance with safety regulations, and all school events and operations are organised.

**Transportation**:

- Ensure that the school has the best partner for student transportation services.
- Oversee the day-to-day transportation operation, ensuring a safe and reliable bus service for students.
- Develop strategies to optimise the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of transportation services.
- Coordinate bus routes, schedules, and driver assignments.
- Monitor and maintain transportation records, including maintenance and inspection reports.
- Manage the sign-up operation for transportation services
- Address transportation-related concerns and issues raised by students, parents, and staff
- Ensure compliance with transportation regulations and implement necessary safety measures
- Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in transportation management.

**The Person**:

- Previous experience in safety and security management, preferably in an educational or community-based setting
- Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations and procedures
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
- Familiarity with transportation operations and regulations
- Fluency in English, both spoken and written
- Excellent leadership, communication,and interpersonal skills
- Ability to make sound decisions in high-pressure situations
- Proficiency in using relevant software and technology
- Ability to prioritise and work to deadlines with a ‘can do’ attitude
- Team player with a good sense of humour
