We help creators share work privately, license it with clear terms, and protect their IP through structured documentation, controlled access, and optional monitoring workflows. The platform combines secure portfolios, licensing records, and collaboration tools — designed to reduce risk and make lawful licensing effortless.

Role

This is a full-time role open to remote candidates (with Lisbon as our base). As a Software Engineer, you'll build and maintain the core backend systems that power Legality. You'll design APIs and services that support secure access control, portfolio management, licensing records, audit trails, and scalable integrations. You'll work closely with product and design to ship features with high reliability, performance, and clarity.

What you'll do


• Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs


• Implement authentication, authorization, and access control


• Develop data models for works, licenses, and audit trails


• Improve performance, reliability, and observability (logs/metrics)


• Write clean, testable code and contribute to code reviews


• Collaborate async with product and design to translate workflows into software

Requirements


• Solid CS fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, databases)


• Strong backend experience (APIs, services, system design)


• Proficiency with at least one backend language and OOP principles


• Experience with relational databases (and/or event-driven systems)


• Strong debugging skills and ownership mindset


• Comfortable working in a remote, async team

Nice to have


• Security mindset (secure-by-default design)


• Experience with SaaS products, access-controlled content, or B2B platforms
