Host Hotel Systems is the largest technology provider for the hospitality sector in Portugal. We develop customized IT solutions for over 1,800 clients. We are currently undergoing a major digital transformation, moving away from legacy systems toward a modern, cloud-first, and automated infrastructure.

About the Role:

We are looking for a technically hungry Junior to Mid-level Engineer who will work alongside the wider infrastructure team. Your goal won't be to replace their work, but to enhance it. You will operate as the 'technical catalyst,' building the automation tools and cloud infrastructure that make the entire team's life easier and more efficient.

You will lead critical technical initiatives, including our migration to Microsoft 365 and Intune, and help us re-architect our legacy platform (IIS and MS SQL) using Ansible and modern automation. We are looking for someone who may not have the full "Engineer" title yet, but who possesses the "Engineer" mindset—you prefer a terminal over a GUI, and you look for ways to automate a task rather than doing it twice manually.

Your Duties:

Phase 1: Migration & Modernization (Immediate Focus)

• Lead the endpoint migration project, configuring Microsoft Intune, Defender, and modern VPN solutions.
• Manage domain controller integration and develop Group Policy Objects (GPOs) to secure and standardize the environment.
• Perform maintenance and troubleshooting for our internal IT systems and client infrastructure.

Phase 2: Automation & Engineering (Growth Focus)

• Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks (and equivalent scripts) to automate server configuration, application updates, and maintenance tasks for IIS and MS SQL platforms.
• Move away from manual "point-and-click" administration by implementing CLI-based workflows.
• Assist in re-architecting legacy systems to migrate resources to Azure (and potentially other clouds).

Ongoing Responsibilities

• Collaborate directly with the CISO to build a secure, compliant, and scalable infrastructure.
• Provide high-level technical support and troubleshooting for complex infrastructure issues.
• Document infrastructure-as-code, system configurations, and disaster recovery processes.
• Build automation playbooks, scripts, and documentation that empower the support team to resolve issues faster and consistently.

Requirements:

• Proven experience in IT infrastructure, systems administration, or engineering.
• Strong proficiency in Windows OS, Windows Server, Active Directory, and networking.
• Experience with Windows-based application servers (IIS) and databases (MS SQL).
• Strong experience with scripting for automation (PowerShell or Bash).
• Automation Interest: Familiarity with configuration management tools like Ansible is highly preferred. If you have built playbooks or scripts to automate server deployment in the past, we want to talk to you.
• Must be comfortable working with Linux environments and command-line interfaces (CLI). We need an operator, not just a GUI administrator.
• Basic understanding of cloud concepts (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a focus on root cause analysis.
• Fluency in English and Portuguese (spoken and written).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Microsoft 365 tenant migration, Intune, or Autopilot.
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) concepts (e.g., Terraform).
• Homelab experience or personal projects demonstrating automation enthusiasm.
