Manager,
for a
medical device manufacturing company in Guimarães, Braga.
We are looking for a Plant Engineer to assume technical responsibility for manufacturing processes, infrastructure, and maintenance, during the factory setup, ramp-up, and stabilization phases.
To act as the technical owner of the plant, ensuring robust, efficient, sustainable and compliant manufacturing and maintenance systems, while enabling effective transfer of products from R&D to manufacturing in full compliance with normatives and medical device regulatory requirements.
Key Resposibilities
Industrialization & Manufacturing Processes
- Lead new product transfer and industrialization from R&D to serial production
- Define, validate, and optimize manufacturing processes
Qualification, Compliance & Quality
- Lead and execute IQ / OQ / PQ for equipment and manufacturing processes
- Ensure compliance with GMP, ISO 13485, and internal QMS procedures
Methods, Standards & Efficiency
- Establish standard times, capacity assumptions, and efficiency targets
- Drive process optimization, cost reduction, and continuous improvement
Maintenance & Facilities
- Coordinate maintenance activities with Production to minimize downtime
- Define and implement the maintenance strategy (preventive, corrective, predictive)
- Ensure availability, reliability, and safety of production equipment and utilities
- Lead and technically supervise the Maintenance & Facilities Technician
Infrastructure & Industrial Projects
- Contribute to the design, improvement, and scaling of production infrastructure
- Support the implementation of new industrial projects, technologies, and equipment
- Participate in layout definition, utilities planning, and capacity expansion
Engineering Function & Technical Authority
- Structure and coordinate the engineering and maintenance functions as production support systems
- Train production and maintenance personnel on processes and standards
- Review, validate, and approve technical drawings, GD&T, materials, and manufacturing specifications
Required Profile
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering (mandatory)
- Strong background in technical drawing and manufacturing documentation
- 5–8 years of industrial experience, preferably in regulated environments
- Proven experience in: CNC machining; Plastic injection molding; Product industrialization and production support; Industrial maintenance coordination
- Medical devices experience is a strong plus
- Factory setup / ramp-up experience is highly valued
Technical Skills
- Advanced knowledge of technical drawing, GD&T, tolerances, and finishes
- Proficiency in CAD and/or SolidWorks
- Experience with BOMs, routings, ERP, and maintenance records
- PFMEA, control plans, root-cause analysis
- Lean Manufacturing / continuous improvement tools
Languages
- English – fluent (mandatory)
- Portuguese – fluent
