Mechanical Project Manager

PE Global Recruitment are currently working with a leading Data Centre delivery partner to recruit a Mechanical Project Manager to join the team in Portugal. This is a full time, permanent role, that can be worked on rotation. The Role: Our Client is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for an Mechanical Project Manager to join our team in Portugal.The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and delivering the full mechanical scope of works across the project, ensuring all activities are executed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards. This includes overseeing mechanical installation, coordinating with internal teams and subcontractors, managing budgets and schedules, and maintaining strong communication with clients and project stakeholders throughout all phases of delivery.Key ResponsibilitiesManage and oversee all aspects of the mechanical scope of works, ensuring delivery in line with project specifications, schedule, and budget.Analyse, track, and manage critical milestone activities to prevent schedule delays.Review construction proposals, including scope and cost assessments, to ensure alignment with project objectives.Lead and mentor project teams, including engineers, package managers, supervisors, and foremen, fostering collaboration and accountability.Engage with project stakeholders, including clients, to ensure clear communication and alignment on project goals.Liaise with design teams and subcontractors to ensure project delivery within scope, budget, and agreed timelines.Drive productivity and performance through effective weekly and daily work planning.Plan and coordinate day-to-day site operations in collaboration with package managers.Oversee and manage subcontractor performance, tracking progress against schedule and manpower requirements.Coordinate activities with other subcontractors operating in shared work areas to ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted progress.Prepare and present comprehensive weekly project reports, including:Incident/accident reportsSchedule updates (planned vs. actual)12-week lookaheadIndustrial relations issuesProcurement forecast (including long-lead items)Weekly variation log (issued to the Quantity Surveyor)Notifications of any delays, disruptions, or risks to planned activitiesConsolidate supervisor updates into weekly progress reports, highlighting key achievements, risks, and material delivery status.Conduct weekly commercial meetings with the commercial team to capture all variations and ensure client costs are kept up to date.Promote and manage site safety, working closely with the Mechanical Package Manager and Safety Advisor.Drive a strong Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) culture across all project activities.Develop, implement, and maintain company procedures in collaboration with package managers.Manage and control change management processes, including cost and programme impacts.RequirementsMinimum of 10 years' experience managing large-scale mechanical projects, including commercial offices, retail developments, hotels, schools, or data centres.Prior experience on data centre projects is highly desirable.Trade or engineering qualification preferred, with recent experience overseeing major electrical contracts.Proven track record in mechanical project management, with strong capabilities in controlling scope, schedule, and budget.Demonstrated ability to coordinate and manage large-scale installation projects, ideally within data centre delivery or similarly complex mechanical environments.Strong technical knowledge of mechanical design and build systems.In-depth understanding of mechanical systems, including HVAC, piping, and associated services.Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills.Ability to drive project progress and foster collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
